sorry , but in tale of the tape questions , boxrec fails more than a TV broadcast. IT WAS 74" there.

And it ISN'T now and there are SECONDARY sources that list it as 76" and NONE for 74". You now have a source which doesn't say what you says it does, although it "used to" which you yourself say is not trustworthy...do you see the problem?

I've never seen a 74" wingspan measurement for Louis on any tale of the tape I've ever seen, but anyway...

Boxrec is a great resource, but it's often incorrect on it's facts, which is why it's info should always be double checked.

He's not the bumbling oaf he's often made out to be.

Granted I am overstating things a bit just to add fuel to the fire.

I'm just glad that after spending the last 27 years in and around the sport, I've lost my "credibility" on a forum of loveable internet wankers because I dare to pose the remote possibility that the orthodoxy of decades ago may not longer hold sway. Talk about conservative... nay reactionary stances.

And yet you call people 'deluded' for daring to have another view...

And reactionary, and conservative...basically it's impossible to have a view contrary to his own without being hypnotised by a past era.

Given his low opinion of the place and the people in it, you got to wonder what he's doing here.

Alas, I can see the day, when we old-timers are gone, that Louis, Ali, Dempsey, Holmes and Frazier will forever be pushed off all-time greats lists. Guys like Sanders, Byrd, Valuev, Peter and Chagaev may very well be vying for top honors.

    Today is not that day.

    a) Carnera had skills. He was not merely an overgrown oaf. This must be said. And his style was quite similar to Vitali's. Jab and move; peck, peck, peck. Neither has concussive power.

    b) Louis' skills were vastly superior to any contemporary bloated Vitali opponent's. Louis would worry Vitali from Round 1 with jolting right crosses to the body and terrific left hooks, en route to getting inside and banging away with both hands, something totally beyond current heavies' abilities.

    c) The endurance factor must be considered. Can Vitali, who was showing cracks 6 rounds into fighting an old, fat Lewis successfully go 15 against the sleek, primed Louis?

    d) The common denominator with Louis was he feasted on huge men. Styles make fights and tearing through the big-man style was a Louis specialty.

This fight would not be a cakewalk for either man. At least let's have a consensus on that point and not simply dismiss a past great out of hand because he only appears in grainy black and white.

I do.... he crouches so low and has faster feet than Vitali, think of what Marciano would do to his mid section!

Infact I could see Rocky losing by DQ as he wasn't afraid to hit low against much shorter guys than Klitschko!
