Gary Mason was a decent fighter, and better than most of the contenders we see nowadays. If I compare him to Sam Peter because he's along similar lines, he was much better, in better shape, faster, more desire. It shows how the level of heavyweights has slipped. Mason was fringe contender in his own time, nowadays he looks better than some of the guys who held alphabet belts.

Mason was actually still bringing the fight to Lewis when it was stopped. Still one of Lewis's best performances, IMO.

Vk by Ko or TKO. He's 2 big, strong and a better chin. Louis is the superior fighter here but he won't b able 2 take Vitalis power. Joe's chin wasn't the greatest.

Louis's chin might not have been McCallesque but he was only ever stopped after sustained beatings by top punchers.

It wasn't bad enough to save you if you were getting the worst of things.

Everybody who has voted for Klitschko should hang their head in shame.

Just because some don't choose to partake in fairy tales and myth-building is not reason for shame. Purposeful mental delusion and intellectual honesty do qualify, however.

I agree........ The "K" bros. get dinged because their English sucks and the fact that they are SO MUCH better than all other heavies out there today, including washed-up Jim Toney from the USA....... I love to read and hear old farts talk about how awesome greats like "Sullivan, Fitz, Jeffries & Johnson" were way back when and, I as well, love them dudes too, but to think that they really got a chance against the physically educated and trained Klitschko's of today is insane and absurd.......... Okay, Okay, Ol' Johnson perhaps could hang in there today if he were a prime figure of age 30 to 32 yrs of age; Johnson was awesome........ But the "K" brothers deserve credit for being the best we got today............

Yes but being the best heavyweight today is like being the talest midget.

Put them in the 90s and they both get taken apart.

Only Lewis, Foreman, Holy and a '91 / 1992 Bowe would be an obstacle to worry about for the "K" brothers in the 1990s.......... I think both Wlad and Vitali could do very well with the rest of the lot like "Ruddock, Tyson, Morrison, Mercer, Gonzalez, Mathis Jr., Spoon, Donald, Seldon, Tucker, Hipp, Moorer & Cooper."

Honestly I would like to see how they fared against Ray Mercer.

If they get past that Lewis will take them apart brutaly.

Klitschko wasnt a huge puncher, his high ko percentage is from the level of fighters he faced and from tons of punches. That being said Joe Louis still had a glass chin and if Billy Conn could hurt him then Vitali would ice him

Vitali could never beat Joe Louis, prime against prime. In fact, I would like to see Vitali Klitschko against Primo Carnera. I believe even Carnera would beat him, more times than not.

I'm curious. Do you actually believe that a peak Louis without the benefit of any modern training and nutrition would beat Vitaly? To see how absurd that sounds to me, its like saying Jesse Owens without modern nutrition and training would still beat Maurice Greene in a 100 meter race. You seem to let Louis' greatness suggest he is as good as it get's H2H. What kind of heavyweight nowadays will it take to make you say Louis will lose.

You are a good poster but a maverick (among the inteligent ones).

I think that you are being a bit quick by dismissing everybody who thinks that Louis or Dempsey would beat these limited and comparativley unproven heavyweights.
