Very tough fight for Joe Louis but I think he could slip Klitschko’s Jab/reach and take care of business on the inside. He’d have to do some serious body work and would take some lumps along the way. In the end i think he breaks down Vitali late by TKO
I give Joe a better chance in the rematch. Vitali dominates at range the first fight. KO's Louis in 6 Walcott, EZ and Marciano all beat Joe, and Schmeling nailed him with rights all night long. None of them were as dominating as Vitali was. ( highest KO rate in history) He had a booming right hand. Joe will not be able to KO Vitali, so barring injury Louis has no comeback to the size and chin disadvantage Joe was also a come forward stalker. Vitali eats them alive. I just do not see Joe taking it.
1. None of them fought like Vitali. 2. Louis was way past him prime in three of these fights. 3. Vitali didn't have better right hand than Walcott, Schmeling or Marciano.
Don’t even bother with this guy. He’s a bonafide Louis detractor and doesn’t even rate him in the top 5 at heavyweight. What a joke.
Vitali by ko. I can see Joe doing well early on with his speed and accuracy but when Vitali adjust I can’t see Joe lasting very long
Joe was an ATG, but he had flaws. He does terrible in fantasy matchups for a reason. Against the bum of the month club he fought during his reign - most other ATG heavyweights would have done as well or even better. Not saying he was not a very special fighter. He has steadily been trending down my top 10 lists. I do not see it as that controversial.
Louis' main problem here is that Vitali has an ATG chin. While Louis is the better boxer in every orthodox sense of the word, and while his combination punching is legendary, I don't fancy his durability against Vitali's rain of punches while I do fancy Vitali's durability and size against Louis' punches. It would also be interesting to see how Louis copes with Vitali's awkward unorthodox defence. If Louis can tag Vits early with a big and blistering combination that earns some respect, he might be able to turn it into a technical jab-based fight that I'd give him a chance to win. I lean towards Vitali though.
