Size wouldn't matter except Wlad is also skilled. Wlad by knockout, he is way too big for Louis.

Couldn´t say it better. I hate this glorification of the past. Its simply unreal. People who live in the past got no future.

Best example: Imagine Roy Jones would´ve fought today version of Klitschko or Lennox Lewis at HW in 2003, 2004 or so. A big guy vs a 190.lbs. Jones jr, who is comparable to Louis in size in height. Does anybody really think that Jones jr. would have had a real chance? No, isn´t it. Not at all.
And Jones jr. of 2001 is in skills, speed, footwork, body movement etc. definitely better then the 1938 Joe Louis. I hate comparing A beats B, so he beats C, but in that case its legit and it might open some eyes....

The people who pick Louis easily should give some arguments. Obviously they don´t have any....

Wlad KO, just too different of eras and Wlad's chin may have been weak, but louis's was no gem.

wlad by brutal KO 1, via the first flush straight he lands. loius is at a mismatch in every department here. height, reach, power, chin, jab, right........ all in wlads favor, except for probably stamina which wont come into play. i dont doubt that even a well put wlad jab would make loius's knees buckle. again wlad by BRUTAL KO 1. anyone who picks louis over wlad, should be grouped together with the same delusional crowd who picks jack johnson over tyson h2h:)patsch) in the classic forum.

Good analysis. Joe's chin was really suspect and wasn't really tested. He was knocked down and out by Schmeling, knocked down by Braddock, and even by "two-ton" :yikes Tony Galento. These guys weren't exactly monsterous punchers. certainly Wlads jab, straight right, would put Joe on queerstreet.
Joe was still an ATG, but there weren't alot of big punchers around in those days(beforeMarciano).

and just for the record, tyson brutally annihalates jack johnson if they ever fought. it woudd probably have been the most vicious beating ever administered in a boxing ring.

Guess what? This is a FANTASY match, H-Y-P-O-T-H-E-T-C-A-L. The match i not going to happen, Ever. That being said, one rule should always apply in such matches. Whatever year the fight takes place, the combatants have the same technology, nutrition, and training time, etc. available to them. So if Louis fought now, he would be bigger, faster, stronger, etc. The opposite holds true for Wlad if he fought Louis in 1940. It's the only way reasonable way to evaluate fantasy matches.

One other observation is the footprint of Ali's championship career. He beat champion Liston in 1964. He also beat champion George foremanin 1974, who later reclaimed a championship in 1994!!!! That's 30 years of direct connection to the championship. I agree that evolution of the sport continues, but boxing, past vs. present, is subjective, sprinting and swimming races are not.

    Louis KO's Wlad.
