Louis by KO. So what if he was smaller than Klit? Tyson would crush Klit also, and he was a lot smaller than Klit, too - so size doesn't matter a whole lot as compared to skill. Boxing hasn't evolved in the way many people seem to think. There are less people boxing today than there were back then - especially considering the fact that there is more people in the world nowadays. Boxing gyms are much fewer and far between now, and much less talent is going to boxing. Back then you didn't have 87 different belts, either. Look at the talent pool in the HW div now and you can't tell me that it's at its peak in History..
Like hell Louis was 6'3. He was closer to 6'1 if anything and Tyson 5'11. Not to mention that Hearns was also taller and had a longer reach than Tyson. I guess Hearns is the bigger man, too?
Louis was 6'2". Tyson is LISTED at 5'11" 1/2, but he is ACTUALLY slightly over 5'10". So I guess Louis was probably 3 1/2 inches taller.
I would estimate a 3 inch advantage seeing that most people regard Tyson as being closer to 5'11, but regardless, being taller and having a longer reach doesn't equal being a bigger man. If that were the case, Thomas Hearns would be a bigger man than Butterbean.
this guys goes life and death with sam peter and some say louis gets blow out...,PLEASE...,one good combo from the king of combos and its night night wladdy..., DAN LAW
Louis was at his best around ~205. Tyson was 218 in the Spinks fight. So, Tyson had 10-15lbs on him. How much does weight matter, exactly? What does that do for him? Does that mean Klitchko kills Tyson because he weighs so much more and is much bigger?
Weight tends to matter a lot considering that's why they have certain divisions in boxing? Louis weighed in consistently around 200 pounds in his prime. Tyson was around the 215-220 mark. That means Tyson would have an incredible 15-20 lbs weight advantage over Louis. And let's not forget that Tyson would do much better against Klitschko considering Tyson had faster feet, was a less stationary target, and had a better defense than Louis. Tyson also possessed more raw power, though I would give the accuracy and combination punching edge to Louis. But the bottom line is that a 45 lbs advantage for Klitschko would be too much. Especially considering that Wladimir is a finely tuned athlete who has a fantastic arsenal of punches.
There are diminishing returns on weight though. Obviously there's a big difference between a 130lb man and a 180lb man - more so than the difference between a 200lb and 350lb man. A 200lb man is capable of punching about as hard as a human can punch. Indeed, there's some evidence that over a certain weight, a human ceases to be as good a boxer as he may otherwise have been (speed issues etc). Though the jury is still out. There are issues of course, (in fighting, clinching etc.) but they are not insurmountable.
styles make fights and peter fought a heroic fight. he didn't try and box. he just came forward throwing wild haymakers. most of the damage he did was to the back of wlad's head. peter took enoromous punishment and showed an iron chin in that fight. could louis take those types of shots? I don't know. louis like today's wlad seemed to have a stalking style almost waiting for his opponent to make one mistake. wlad has shown no vulnerabilities to this type of style. again, this is joe louis not chris byrd but this is no slam dunk for the brown bomber.
this is true since louis threw hellacious combinations and had revoltionary power for his time. klit has never faced anyone that can let his hands go like that. at the same time louis looked to have trouble with the right cross (schmeling), which is wlad's trademark. neither guy had a great chin. it might me a matter of who gets off first but this one is not going to the scorecards. Wlad's size, movement and sledgehammer jab imo give him the better opportunity to land his big shots first.
Wlads chin is ****, hes been down 11 times and been TKO'd 3 times against less than stellar opposition, if Peters punches can land, Im sure louis' can. Wlad is by far overrated on this site, he is dominating in a weak era and has only been champ since april of 06, thats see how long he holds the belt, Im guessing he will lose it in the next 2 years.
thats correct sir!!!! wlad gets hit with one of those punches from the bomber and thats the beggining of the end folks!!!
