Sure I would rate it as one of Louis's better wins when he won. Stylisticaly Stribling could give Louis more problems than most in my opinion.
Right Im back to you,Stribling gets his chance based on what?Stop looking at his ko figures and look at who he kod, show me ONE rated fighter he kod,the best on his record was a 37 yearold Jack Renault,Stribling ,who was known as the "King of the Cane breaks" because he toured the tank towns koing his chauffeur,NEVER KOD a top fighter he was a fair boxer thats it,if you want to look at ko % look at Carneras or Lamar Clarks ,does that make them great punchers? Now do you get my point?ps I won my bet Mendoza would chime in on your side.JUST SO YOU KNOW STRIBLING DIDNT HAVE AN AMAZING PUNCH,he kod third raters, finis.
This thread askes the question, does Stribling have a chance? Yes, he does. Bottom line is this. Stribling was better than Tommy Farr, and Farr gave Louis a tough fight. Stribling was rated has high as #2 in Ring Magazine at heavyweight, and nearly upset Jack Sharkey. Stribling also Ko'd a top ten ring magazine fighter at heavyweight in one round! Now, do you think Stribling has a chance?
Farr lost the vast majority of the rounds. Just because he is one or few of all twenty title defenses that actually made the distance, doesn't mean he came close to beating Louis. I also heard Louis injured his right and fought with his left mostly.
Show me a top fighter in his prime that Stribling kod,or think again about him and his "amazing punch" is that fair? In other words PUT UP OR SHUT UP! While your at it have a look at all the big punchers he faced or actually didnt face ,the best one he met kod him.Stop making silly retorts and answer the questions.
How about I show you 128 fighters he knocked out in a twelve year career, enough to put him in second place regarding knockouts, all time? NO NO NO NOT WHAT I'M ASKING FOR
Do your home work first , ithen you can have a pop ,its allways good policy, the best puncherStribling faced outside Schmeling was probably Paul Berlenbach a LH who drew with and beat him ,Stribling was known for being cautiously matched to avoid hitters ,his Mother had a big input in his career, you could have found all this out if you had looked instead of ,making silliy little retorts.
Carnera kod 71 fighters out of 104 fights ,does that make him a big hitter? Why dont you answer my questions? If you show me a top rated guy he kod I will eat crow ,if you dont its logical to assume he only kod lower rated guys isnt it?If you cant show me big punchers that he survived against ,then its also logical he didnt meet any ,isnt it? So your argument about his power and his durability come in to question dont they?atsch
Carnera was a very underrated hitter, actually. You'd know this if you'd stop with the silliness, silly.
I think Mendoza makes a lot very good points about Stribling. This was a man who had loads of ring experience, a good punch, and was rarely stopped. Some of the opponents he beat were not great, but they weren't bad either. During Joe Louis's 12 year reign, he surely must've faced men who were not as good as Young Stribling was. That said, I think Louis would beat him convincingly, but for the same reasons that Mendoza gave, I would give Stribling a chance at giving him a good match.
Thanks. I could tell McVey that Stribling did in fact KO a top ten heavyweight, but I do not think it would help much. As for Stribling's skills, any man who could out point Rosenbloom, Loughran, and Livensky could box....and very good boxers often gave Louis fits. Pastor, Schmeling, Farr, Conn, Walcott....etc... The difference here is Stribling had the best chin of the bunch of the " boxers " that Louis fought, and the had more power than most of them.
Very good points, and I agree with all of them. What really amazes me about Stribling, is that he had nearly 300 pro fights by the age of 29, or something if I read correctly. Apparently, he died before he even hit 30. God only knows how many fights he would have ended up with had he lived and continued boxing.
