To be honest its fairly subjective. To watch prime Ali was like watching a ballet on ice. It was magical. Louis`s style was more brutal and effective than Ali`s but nonetheless equally as effective. Personally i have Ali at number 1 but thats only because iv seen his fight with Cleveland Williams a thousand times and it still has me in awe.

This simply isn't true. I can show you pretty much everything Joe Louis did in that video in one Floyd Mayweather fight (his last one for example). I would show you both the technique and skill.

Joe Louis was a machine at what he was good at but he was not 100% text book nor was he the best at it. Monte (maker of the video) acts like it is Louis and Gans birthright to be revered as Gods.

People have one text book definition and then a Joe Louis text book definition. For example the way Louis stood was not text book. Louis was missing out on many skills. He had trouble arm blocking and could barely cut off a ring.

Louis was a machine but as good as he was he was very flawed. After all Joe Louis was a heavyweight and they always have been the poorest standard of boxing, Ali included.

...the neck hair guy who makes video slide shows of himself? Looking in a mirror somewhere, probably.

I know. Ali was just the perfect fighter imo, and he didn't even body punch. Ali's precision punching is unmatched even to this day imo.

In the Williams fight Ali did show what he could do the body. He was ripping combos downstairs.

Tyson may have been more accurate. Tysons hand to eye was just as good as Ali`s. What was even better was that Tyson new anatomy VERY well. He knew where to hit you to hurt you and could do it with frightening ease in comparison to most modern heavies who are very slow and cumbersome. Ali tended more to throw quick flurries but there wasnt much on them because he was on his toes. If he wanted to sit on his punches more im fairly sure he could have got more KO`s but that wasnt his style.

You are right. Ali did very little body punching, but he did throw a couple to the body in that fight. He was complete in that fight. This is why I don't believe Louis had the perfect textbook style.

People should check out the Tyson-Rudduck I fight to see the skill, power, chin and counter punching of prime Tyson. Even after a brutal loss, Tyson fans were scared when Rudduck tried to take Tyson out with the smash in the very first round lol. Tyson against Thomas, Holmes, and Spinks was awesome to watch.

Williams was a bit of a punch bag, no? I'm not denying that Ali looked wicked that night, but Williams was done.

Yeah, but that's the point that Cox is trying to make I think - Louis is seen by some as a plodder-puncher rather than the stalking box-puncher he really is. I see this video as a response to exactly that.

I'd look at it the other way around - I could show you a Mayweather fight and find examples of Louis doing these same things. That is the revelation to many, that is the surprise, although you are right in what you are saying.

Williams was a noted and feared puncher who was in great shape that night. Apart from knock out losses to Liston and being over matched earlier in his career no one had humiliated him like that before.

Yeah, but between fighting Liston and fighting Ali, Williams had been shot. The bullet was still lodged in his body. He possibly should not have been in the ring.

His only name opponents post-Ali were Terrell (he got beaten up) and Eddie Machen (draw). He was nothing like the fighter that Liston blew up twice. I'm not getting down on Ali here. At all. He was pretty amazing against Terrell for example, and he was, he was amazing agaisnt Williams, but - that fighter wasn't the same one I watched fighting Liston.
