They are, but the best heavyweights are still fantastic to watch. I love watching the likes of Louis, Ali and Tyson. But in saying that, I'd much prefer to watch the likes of Duran, Sanchez, Robinson, Leonard, Hagler etc., and even the next tier down of the lower weights..

I do consider Wiliams done at the highest level but he has five wins against poor competition going in and I think five wins after the Ali beating, so he is definitely still a fighter, just not one that can be expected to compete with Muhammad.

I am still very impressed with one thing in this fight though, and that is Muhammad's generalship. His original plan is to box and move, but he understands what he actually has in there with him within a round and changes the plan to become more aggressive. Not many fighters are capable of such a quick turnaround in terms of tactics. Shades of his planning in Zaire.

I understand, what I am saying is that people will tend to find it surprisng that Floyd and Joe have some slick skills in common. Poor film quality and a general misunderstanding concerning what Joe did make the excersise worthwhile, though I understand your reservations.

On offense? Yes, Louis was text book. On Defense? No way, Louis had too many flaws..low guard, shuffling feet, and he stuck his face forward too much.

As far as textbook boxing goes, its gonna be extremely difficult to find a fighter then argue in his favour over Louis.

    EASILY a top 10 p4p fighter... very possibly a top 5 p4p fighter... undoubtedly a top 3 HWT fighter.

    Complete legend... fantastic fighter.

Williams also had poor competition pre and post Liston and Terrell. He had the odd good fight. I believe people like to say he was totally done because he was shot.

Even if he was done, Ali did the best he could and dominated. I think its his best performance but not best win/fight. He showed what he could do and we know he could do that against higher level of competition cos he showed it.

I agree. People need to know Joe Louis could move around. They need to know he did throw triple hooks etc
