I heard that there were press reports prior to Conn-Louis that supported Louis' later claim that he drained himself to about 197 to make the fight more marketable which affected him greatly come fight time. Any truth to this?
Just Louis’s word, Louis is human I think what he did was lose the weight to be quicker to catch Conn… Louis will tell you losing the weight was why he struggled for the sake of the peanut gallery, Conn was just great despite being small and Louis did catch him didn’t he?
It's said in every single book I've read about Louis. It's also in the book that came out a year or two ago specifically on the Louis Conn fight. A very good book I might add. Blackburn was against Joe coming in that light but Joe did it anyway.
