Louis goes through the current crop of so-called"fighters" like a hot knife goes thru butter.......

    Exactly :good

Louis is on a completely different level from all HWTs today in a technical sense, he would be too fast for them & I dont see any of them taking his power either.

Joe Louis was an ATG p4p fighter, these guys are barely even GOOD for their OWN WEIGHT in their OWN ERA.

The size of Wlad n co would present some sort of obstacle for JL but everything & I mean everything else is in Louis`s favour & skills pay the bills at the end of the day & JL leaves Wlad n co for dead when it comes to skills.

    :thumbsup

    No he wouldn't.

There wouldn't be three fights. Nobody needs to see a rematch after a decisive KO, and nobody wants to see a grown man **** his trunks more than once.

    sure you did.

What amazes me about some here is the perception that big is better.

If big was better (and harder hitting as is being implied) then surely the russian behemoth would be stopping all oponents in a couple of rounds. As chagaev showed (y'know the little fella) with boxing ability, the big boys can be befuddled.

didnt the un-talented Max Baer prove otherwise way back in the 30's against Primo.

My big problem with Wlad is not his skillset or his chin, its the fact that he cant put more than 2 shots together. Even against the extremely limited (and despondent) Thompson, he looked extremely easy to hit in the later rounds, whilst requiring 20 seconds between each punch. His stamina is his greatest weakness.

Ironically enough, I think the small heavy (Chagaev) would be the one to give JL the most trouble, as he's a crafty little fighter who tries to fight in the pocket.

I actually think Povetkin, with his reasonably sound fundamentals and high workrate would give Louis a pretty decent go. Peter can punch, and Wlad's style could prove problematic. But, yeah...a peak Louis would likely do some scary, scary things to most of the heavyweights that are currently in contention.

I will ask once again, for the umpteenth time, where is the successful heavyweight today who even remotely resembles Louis stylewise and size-wise? His great effectiveness in the 30's and 40's simply would not translate well today. Sorry.

Yeah. I don't think Ali would transalte partcularly well as there is no-one quite like him around.

There is no heavyweight who remotely resembles Louis in any era period.

You might find an all time great welterweight who resembles him here and there.

Dentable dosnt get the job done.

The question is who was harder to stop?

Klitschkos chin bailed out a couple of fighters who would never have had a chance against him otherwise.

Louis's chin never lost him a fight.

silly question you could say the same regarding Ali.

No heavyweight today has remotely close enough punching accuracy, speed, compactness, variety or the ability to punch in combination as Louis

Size is nothing more than a mere advantage, but one that shouldn't be ignored either. Especially, when you're comparing fighters across eras who regularly faced men of drastically diffrerent size dimensions.

Like it or not, it DOES count for something...
Yes he did, but against an equally untalented opponent, who's career was built on pure farse, and never would have gotten past the journeyman level had it not been for mafia assistance...

A fair criticism, and one that I agree with to an extent...

Possibly, and certainly a much more reasonable statement than " Louis would obliterate the current crop."
