Joe Louis would obliterate George Foreman

Foreman is much greater than Walcott and a better fighter than Jersey, but we have to remember Louis was way past his best for that fight and still went 2-0 with the second being a crushing ko.

Against prime Louis, Foreman will resemble Baer and we all know what happened in that fight.

 

Louis was knocked down by Tony Galento and Buddy Baer.

 

Both of which were heavy hitters and had solid chins for the record.

 

Word. That Buddy Baer knockdown was amazing

 

Oh I see K, Joe Louis was a "plodder" but George Foreman was the incarnation of Willie Pep ?. What a silly statement...George foreman was a powerful heavy puncher no doubt who was as stationary as could be for a man his girth. Joe Louis who too many of this generation of boxing fans have little idea of the SWIFT and deadly power of his unmatched accurate combinations, was tigerish in his movements compared to the heavier Foreman would certainly beat the ponderous Foreman to the punch, and NO ONE ,Foreman., Ali,
or whoever you can name survives the brutal and target attack that Louis inflicts on you once he had you hurt...Watch his films with open eyes and an open mind and even you K might be fairly impressed.
Now of course George Foreman had the power to hurt Louis or anyone else, but in all my long years I have watched boxers amateur and pro, the victory most likely goes to the swiftest and the old adage still holds true. SPEED KILLS...
P.S. I have always felt that among the modern heavyweights I think the YOUNG Mike Tyson had the best chance to beat Joe Louis because of great hand speed and power...

 

I like Louis in this one. He'll overcome some scary moments in the process.

I think Foreman probably was at his best when he beat Norton. He wasn't wild or over-eager, but very calm and controlled, in the way he cut off the ring and waited for the right opportunity.

There's of course always the possibility that Louis would catch him coming in, and hurt him enough to put him away - but it's equally possible, imo, that Louis would wilt under Foreman's attack, once he started to let the punches go.

Hard to call, really... but Foreman's better chin could be the deciding factor here.

 

And you equally don't PLOD against a faster murderous accurate puncher like Joe Louis in his prime..."No way, no how",especially if
Foreman's defense is not the best in the world ". It will be decided by who get's there first with their punches K, and the faster combo puncher
usually gets there "fustess with the mostess"...

 

Neither had the finishing ability of George Foreman.

Maybe Louis could catch Foreman early coming in but IMO Foreman catches up with Joe and knocks him out in short order.

 

Did you really just bring up "defense" to support your argument for Foreman? George`s lack of defense and head movement is one of the biggest reasons this is such an easy call.

 

An easy call but not an easy fight. It's the main ingredient why Joe would win, of course.

 

Foreman was absolutely the better finisher I just don't see Foreman winning this as easily as people say. When did Joe lose to a big puncher aside from Marciano? Never. Sure he was knocked down his share of times but he always punished them in return. Also, he never went the distance with a heavy hitter. Louis is vastly superior on the inside. He would batter Foreman to a pulp if Foreman can't keep him out. Not an easy fight to judge but Louis's reputation against bigger heavy hitters speaks for itself.

 

Foreman was pretty light on his feet for his size back during his real prime. At 217, he was hardly a lumbering giant.

And I am having a really difficult time calling a winner in this one.
