When I watch Foreman get KD twice and nearly KO'd by Lyle, I think what horrible things Louis would have done to him. The Brown Bomber's blisteringly fast, accurate, timed, lethal combination punching would mean Foreman is consistently beaten to the punch and countered, soon finding himself seriously hurt. Once Big George is hurt, Louis would smell blood and annihilate him using his supreme finishing ability. This content is protected
I don't see Max Baer as being a reasonable barometer for determining that Joe Louis would beat Foreman.. While Baer and Foreman might have had similarities in their stances, the differences far outweigh the commonalities. Foreman could work the body, tie a man up, hit with both hands, had greater power, and a sturdier chin.. He was also a much better finisher than Baer who had to pound the be-Jesus out of Carnera for what seemed like forever before it was finally over. Foreman's defense sucked, but I think it might have been superior to Baer's as well.. Louis would have his moments and might even win the fight, but I don't see this ending in the same fashion that the Baer fight did. Foreman was several leagues above him and was only stopped once in 81 pro fights, due to exhaustion, and NOT because he was outgunned. Louis was the one who got in trouble early against big punchers....Not Foreman.. And if George coud get him stunned from the get go ( a very real possibility ), then it might end up being just as short of a night for Louis as it was for Frazier.
Sweeping generalisation right there. Only utter n00bs believe in the concept of invincibility in boxing.
It could be very painful for George, yes. Look what Lyle did to him for 4 rounds, if that was Louis then it's lights out, he was the best finisher in boxing. Still, George is a live underdog. Another good matchup thread!
I like Joe Louis in this one, but Foreman is no Primo Carnera and could surprise Louis with his power and stop him late. That's if George is still in the fight when the bell sounds for round 10. Big George definitely has a puncher's chance.
Good post. Foreman was far superior to Baer ... my point was how that Louis fought. He used his legs more than I remember in any other fight just like Holmes did in Shavers 1. I feel it made him a far more dangerous faighter when confronting huge power houses like Foreman. I see Foreman as too slow and too wide with his punches ... He'd get hit too much too fast and no one and I mean no one survives too many shots from that Louis ...
A prime young and lithe Joe Louis, would beat the slower punching Foreman to the punch, and obliterate Foreman...No fighter that threw arcing punches against Joe Louis, had a chance against the blurring speed and accuracy of Louis...I don't care how hard Foreman hit,it boils down to who gets their " FUSTESS ", and it will be Joe Louis....
Since when did Foreman have one of the best over-hand rights in heavyweight history? Since when was he patient, calculated counter-puncher? Louis picks him apart with sharp, crisp, accurate and powerful punches.
The " blurring speed" of Joe Louis didn't prevent him from getting pounded by Schmeling or decked by men like Galento, Baer, Braddock and a few others. Foreman's power, chin, mid-range fighting ability, and two fisted attack surpasses anything that these men had to offer. Now, I don't have a problem with people who favor Louis, but saying that Foreman doesn't have a chance is pretty ridiculous.
I can see a technical comparison between Louis and Foreman. They both have two hands. Thats about as far as it goes.
Two things== Max Schmeling at his best had one of the best and fastest right hands in heavyweight history...Accurate as a laser...You are 0bsessed with the theory that "big is better ".Not necessarily true. With bulk you sacrifice speed in heavyweights... 2==Joe Louis was a powerful 200 pounder in strength..He once picked up Primo Carnera in a clinch, and moved the 254 pound giant Carnera a foot away...At the same age Louis was maybe 10 -15 pounds lighter than Foreman and was very powerful with thick thighs...Very strong...
A prime Joe Louis would wear a prime George Foreman out, leading to a late stoppage or decision win...in my opinion.
