    Rocky Marciano idolized and adored Louis.
    But he absolutely 100% separates those sentiments from his in ring performance. All one has to do is watch his face when he’s knocking Louis out.

    Louis wasn’t going to let up either. They were both top class professionals at work.

    In the wise words of Gennady Golovkin, “This is box. This is not just sport. This is serious.”

    This is an excerpt from a Danny Lopez interview. This should put in perspective what it means to fight an idol.


    DH: After several more wins you took on the great Ruben Olivares at the Inglewood Forum in December of ’75. First of all, was it true that Ruben was your boxing idol?


    DL: Oh, yeah! I wanted to be like him so bad. I would read every magazine piece on him. But this was business and we went at it pretty good. I finally knocked him out in the 7th with a straight right.
