To give Ray his due, he was the opponent three times during Louis' early 1949 exhibition tour (after Louis' final defence but before his retirement as champion). The first two went the distance, with Louis getting the newspaper decision both times. In the third, Ray had been knocked out a week earlier by John Holman and shouldn't have been in the ring at all. He failed to come out for the fourth round and never boxed again.
