Louis is the most remarkable combination punxher in heavyweight history. The triple left hook is the most stunning thing I have ever seen from a heavyweight.

I don't think anyone barring Tyson has even come close to these kind of combinations.

The torque behind the shots too as Louis visibly lifts off his feet when he misses. Bad man

His name isn’t brought up much in the most intimidating boxers ever due to his inside and outside the ring class but I reckon Joe Louis would’ve been terrifying to face in the ring. That blank, icy, emotionless expression and knowing what his fists were capable of doing to you would have to be frightening.

That triple hook is a thing of beauty even if old Max was a punching bag this fight.

Agreed. I think Louis would have intimidated guys like Liston and Tyson even if they were more intimidating to look at.

Max still had a great chin, i am not sure if anyone else in that era could tko him.

There's a reason he was voted the greatest puncher of all time by the Ring. Great shout on that triple hook.

I've always thought this was as frightening a combination as has ever been thrown, good post.

Testament to the force of his punches ( in this case his right ) was the lifelong trouble Schmeling had with back problems after Joe,s right had chipped a vertebrate in Max,s spine during the 1 round massacre in their return, according to myth/fact Max,s wife let out a primeval scream just after point of impact , or Braddock,s top lip and upper cheek, laid open by such power, Galento , the bottom half of his face a crimson mask, cutesy of Louis pummeling , short, educated, and delivered with unerring accuracy Louis punches wreaked havoc on anyone he could hit. No arguments please.

When has Wilder EVER used a triple left hook? Or a double left hook? Is he even capable
of doing it in a fight? If you referring to the torque he gets, Louis was still balanced and
under control. Wasn't off balance or wide open to counters as Wilder usually is.

Louis is probably the only heavyweight fighter in history that could stop such a durable fighter like Max so quickly. He made his career of stopping very durable fighters early. Not even Tyson was so devastating.

Max was much more than a punching bag that night. You talk about how intimidating Louis was, how about going in there with a broken right hand? Sometimes a fighter shows how special they are in defeat.

What I WAS REFERRING TO was very specific and literarily the same thing, Flash. Pay attention. Louis gettin credit 4 liftin hisself up with the force of his punches. Wilder gets MADE FUN OF for doing LITERARILY the same damndest thing! It doesn't matter if it was double or triple the same shot (which is unprofessional because nobody should fall for the same punch twice, if you've never trained as I have).

Exactly. In Wilder Fury 1 .. Wilder was trying to land the outside bomb and following it up with a sloppy, off balance hook. It was embarrassing.

I never said anything about Baer not being brave I don’t know why you’re taking umbrage at anything.
Baer was a punching bag though. Watch the fight. Louis barely missed a punch all night and Max just kept standing upright, head still and walking into an assortment of shots. Apart from a brief exchange where Max landed some shots (which Louis punched himself out of) he was dominated.

The broken hand I thought happened during the fight and not prior to but I’ll take your word for it. Again Baer was brave but he was outclassed completely.
