December seventh @ Korakuen Hall. WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight title at stake, Noynay's second defense. The incumbent champ knocked out Kanagawan prospect Satoshi Shimizu in his previous defense, and cut his teeth on the notorious Filipino domestic scene. The challenger is most widely known for defeating Tevin Farmer two years ago (but having the result overturned due to a positive test for androstanediol), and sat on the sidelines for all of 2018 but returned in February and has been feasting on Pinoys since... Noynay is ranked #6 at featherweight by the WBO, and Ogawa is #11. Victory here nudges either one closer to a crack at the world title, currently held by Jamel William "Semper Fi" Herring. Good fight.
This is a Dynamic Glove show, btw, therefore airing on G+ in Japan and watchable in the rest of the world on Isakura. This content is protected
Ogawa's slippery enough and has a powerful enough jab and straight right to keep Noynay on the backfoot and not coming forward, Shimizu was a KO waiting to happen, he was way too open, Ogawa won't be as easy a target. Ogawa takes it close on points.
I pick Ogawa by close decision, although this is pretty well matched with Noynay being on good form and having a good chin.
Either one have anything to bother Herring, should they win? I like Herring, but he isn't really an invincible world-beater or anything. Good enough to repel challenges from hype jobs like Roach, but..
They fought to a technical split draw after five rounds. Filipino judge had it for Noynay and one from Japan had it for Ogawa, while judge three, also Japanese, had it 48-48.
