I think you mean injured...again...but you know what if he wants to keep fighting..let him....I just wish he would fight somebody credible en route to a title instead of jerking off

Terry Smith is a pretty credible Heavyweight, Mesi just wants to take it slow and learn somethings about himself along the way. Mesi will never be champ even in this weak era, his chin is pretty bad and his skills are questionable anymore, I feel Mesi was a great commentator and thats probably his best avenue to go at this stage in his career IMO.

Mesi a waste of the boxing media's time...he was very little before, and he's been nothing since Jirov busted his brain open

I though you meant announcing ??
But I guess he is fighting.
I think he wants to break Marciano's record.
Thats the safe bet --- fighting tomato cans.
He can make a lot of money and could go 100 -- 0 like that.
Only thing is that if you keep on fighting tomato cans --- to turn into one.

I opened this thread with the vain hope that it was announcing a commentating gig.

Mesi should fight ASAP. Terry Smith is a good name to start. I heard some time ago Minto and Greenberg were also in the mix.

I'm not worried about his health and neither is he. He is convinced he is OK, he is 34 years old big well nutritioned sane man who is aware of his situation but wants to do what he loves in life, which is boxing.

If I were in his situation and felt the same way I'd do exactly the same. Who wants to live a long dull meaningless life rather than a possibly short but exciting and meaningfull one?

Mesi is an exciting, talented HW and I wanna see him in the ring.

I hope he takes on a few legit fights this year so he can get back into the mix quickly.

Not sure he can reach one of the major belts at this point, I think he would have a chance against Chagaev, Ibragimov, Maskaev and Peter, but he certainly can be relevant again.

Terry's a decent opponent but Mesi is not going to gain an awful lot from a victory here.
Still at least he's busy, even if I'm still uncertain about whether he should be fighting on at all.

    Excellent post, 11player.

Exactly. As William Wallace tells the troops in Braveheart- "Aye, fight and you may die. Run and you'll live -- at least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our FREEDOM!!!"
Mesi is a grown man who knows what he's doing. And I guarantee you he knows a heck of a lot more about his own health than all the armchair neurologists on this website who think they're experts on brain chemistry and can forecast his imminent doom. He's in a better position to assess the situation than any of us, he's weighed the risks and the rewards, and he wants to continue his career. I respect that.

    Agreed.

Also agreed. Truth be told, when Mesi is in form, he's one of the hardest hitters around, he has impressive handspeed and good ring generalship, he generates enormous punch outputs and outworks people, and he has the heart and perserverance of a champion. Although he is also a heavily-flawed fighter and is vulnerable to defeat against a fair few opponents, I would also give him a legitimate fighting chance against nearly any heavyweight out there.

Smith would be a good match for Mesi to take at this point. He's durable and will give Mesi rounds, but lacks the power or physical tools to be a serious threat to beating him. I would've liked a slightly better opponent, personally, since Smith seems to be on the decline and has lost his last couple fights, but a win over Smith would still be a solid shot in the arm for Mesi's comeback.

Mesi is an intelligent grown man, so if he chooses to fight on than so be it.

Its his decision and not ours.

He seems convinced he'll be fine and seems to have a number of doctors who agree.

    So fight away Joe.

As for Terry Smith, well didn't he just get beat by Rob Calloway?

He's still a semi-decent opponent but at 34 years of age and 30+ fights under his belt oh Joe better get moving.

Times a wastin'. Fights may be hard to land w/o a liscence but he ain't getting any younger.

At least he brings some excitement and the big boys could use all the excitement they can get.

    Fully agree.

I doubt there is even one member on this site who has more medical knowledge than the doctors who have deemed Mesi at no more risk than anyone else. Not ONE.

    Mesi sucks.

He's doing nothing by fighting this tomato cans. Once he faces a good fighter, he will be destroyed. He should retire before he injures himself.
