Mesi was far better than Minto...Are you familiar with him? Also he's 2-3 inches taller than Minto.

In his day Mesi would have teed off on Arreola at will. He might not have stopped him, but he would have beat him like a drum and torn him to shreds. Arreola is ****, Mesi had MUCH better skills. I'm pretty sure that 99% of the poll responders never saw Joe Mesi fight.

The little I've seen of him showed a good offensive fighter, I'm basing my pick of Arreola as the winner on him having a better chin I think he could take Mesi's shots for the most part not so sure Joe can take Arreola's.

Did Mesi retire for good now or what? he did make some comeback attempt after his healthproblems didn't he?

    Peace.

Arreola KO. Mesi was there to be hit and was mauled by both Barret and Jirov.

Mesi has more skills in comparison and he would've definitely landed more punches than Arreola, but maybe not enough to knock down Arreola, because of his chin. Mesi has better movement around the ring also. Arreola punching power could do some damage, but I guess Mesi's skillfull punching and defensive skills would get in the away of any easy knockdown by Arreola.

I have to say the fight can go either way, if it goes to the judges scorecard, I'd say Mesi favored to win. Arreola has to knock him out, unless he knocks him down during the fight to get 10/8 scores in the judges scorecard which can turn things around for him. Mesi has to win a lot of rounds especially the final rounds to convince the judges, which is probably what would've really happen if this fight did happen.

Arreola slightly taller 6'4" to Mesi's 6'1", But Mesi reach is 79" to Arreola 77".

Btw, Mesi only 36, he can return and fight again.

Chris a small heavyweight? Joe has been way to inactive to be able to fight now and beat Chris. Gotta go with Chris on activity. Like Joe's sharpness over Chris when he was active though.

For as much as people dogged him, Mesi was not a bad heavyweight. I can definitely see Mesi outboxing and maybe even stopping an out-of shape Arreola...an in shape Arreola would be another matter altogether.

At his best I think Mesi could have beaten Arreola. He gassed out against Barrett, and was destroying Jirov until Jirov tee'd up on the back of Mesi's head.

Now though? Arreola would maul him.

Joe Mesi was suppose to be the next great heavyweight champion. He was to fight David Tua after his UD win over Vassily Jirov, originally a cruiserweight, who move up in weight to fight Mesi at the heavyweight division.

Mesi vs. Tua would have been a close fight by many experts, but Tua vs. Arreola would have easily been won by Tua.

Mesi vs. Arreola would favor Mesi, though the fight can go either way.

Yeah he was having some sort of physical problems, I don't think we EVER heard the whole truth on that situation. Jirov wasn't even a competitive fight until Joe started flopping around like a fish all of a sudden. He looked bad in the comeback attempt as well. Not bad like someone who had ring rust, bad like someone who was missing something vital to his game.

I still think he's the best boxer/color commentator I've ever seen, would have loved to see him end up on HBO. Last I heard he was getting ready to launch a political career, dunno what happened with that.

Shouldn't this be in some sort of classic boxing forum? Mesi is retired.

Mesi in his prime would have boxed circles around Fatso. Mesi would have been in constant danger from Arreola's power, and also Arreola's 5 chins would have pulled him though from getting KTFO. Either way, I would see a Mesi UD somewhere around 9 rounds to 3.

I think this is a bad matchup for Mesi, and yes I have seen him fight. Chris is big, has good power, and keeps coming behind grinding combinations to the head and body. Plus his chin is rock solid. I see Mesi's crips punching and mobility picking him up early rounds and there maybe being a flash KD by Joe. Areolla walks him down, wears him down and stops him late.
