I highly doubt Napoles stops Whitaker

I don't know how successful Napoles was against southpaws and Sweet Pea was one of the best.

If Napoles can't keep Whitaker in front of him....then it could be a long night.

Whitaker by SD and suffering one flash knockdown.

Napoles beats Pernell, puts him on his ass for a couple of knockdowns for a UD.

Whitaker was no welterweight. Naapoles stops him late.

    Neither was Napoles tho.

    Both were small Welters...

I'll go with Pea by a close decision.

    Very intriguing match up indeed.

Napoles clear decision, dont rate Whitaker nearly as highly at Welter as I do at 140/135. Although the Whitaker of the first McGirt fight could give him a pretty tough fight.

Napoles appeared to be a more natural jr. welter and eventaully a smaller welter. The difference was that Napoles was able to bring his power with him to 147 whereas Whitaker really didn't have that advantage. Moreover, he struggled with fighters at 147 whom he would have breezed by pound for pound at 135. He just didn't carry the weight well. It's not a case of running him down. Likewise, Basilio and Griffith were better welters than they were middles.

Napoles was bigger no doubt... but nothing pea couldn't deal with. Pea would be the best fighter naoples fought with the possible exception being Monzon (Pea is better anyways imo).. But he'd certainly be the best 147 and under fighter Napoles fought... Not sure we could say the same for Napoles being the best figther Whitaker fought.
