LMAO this guy didn't learn anything after he discredited himself with his crazy statements during the Ronda hype when he said that Ronda could beat Floyd and 50% of male 135 lbs fighters. Now he's saying that Amanda Nunes could beat some male UFC fighters at 135 lbs. This content is protected Does he really believe this or is he trying to start another hype train?
IMO he is just an insane narcissist and one of the worst commentators in all of sports. He adds absolutely nothing to the analysis other than "ohhh he is hurt mike". I have no idea why they haven't got a real fighter to take over that job yet other than there are a ton of suburban kids with no friends that probably feel some kind of kinship by joining Rogan's cult and that demographic buys PPV. "Reading twitter and smoking weed makes you smart mannn"
Rogan is extremely insecure, that's why he hangs out with guys like Eddie Bravo and Schaub who make him stand out intellectualy and don't chalenge his views. I read that he is also a bully in BJJ. Dominick Cruz is a much better commentator who would school Rogan when it comes to technical MMA knowledge, Frank Mir is relatively decent too. I also liked Werdum when he used to do commentary for Spanish speaking UFC. Pretty much any fighter would be better than Rogan unless you'd put someone who barely speaks English or a high Nate Diaz.
He's hyping the company that he works for. If you look at the fight with Rousey. Nunes hands looked mediocre. She missed half of her shots on a target(Rousey's head) that wasn't moving, and she didn't have one shot power. Rousey was waiting to be KO'd, and Nunes couldn't even sleep her once she was staggering all over the place, even though she landed flush. I saw nothing that would trouble any man in the UFC's 135, or 125 pound divisions. I didn't see anything that would trouble most men on the street either.
Rogan is all about hyping the UFC, but he does try to be as credible as possible in that situation and doesn't just hype everyone blindly, he always tries to have at least somewhat rational arguments behind it, but with the Ronda Rousey situation he just went full ******. This content is protected
He is with Nunes a bit too. Nunes would get seriously hurt in the ring if she fought any UFC 125 or 135 pound male. Rogan is hilarious. He would be in the studio tearing up, while he slopped down Rousey's balls. She is something really special. The greatest woman of all time. Dude, get out of here with that bull****. She been beating up women smaller than her, without the skillset to even be competitive. The first two times she runs into someone with quality skill for a woman, she gets her arse kicked. Twice. Which suggests, she wasn't that good in the first place. The woman's division just didn't have much talent in it yet.
Average men in the West are cucks who have never been in a fight before. I can imagine many of them being in panic if Nunes hit them. Also, Nunes is clearly on PEDs (as are Ronda and Holly Holm) and has much more testosterone than average women. She is much stronger than average girls her age, but obviously doesn't punch nearly as hard as male fighters of her size and also doesn't have the same explosiveness and speed. People underestimate just how good these male 135 lbs and lighter fighters are.
Like I said in some other thread, my country has good female judo (one of our most successful sports), I actually heard about Ronda before her MMA career. She wasn't even the best in her shallow judo weight class and got beaten by girls from weight class bellow. She's like 60-20 in judo. There was never anything about her that would suggest she is a special athlete. It's ridiculous to compare her to dominant marquee athletes.
A better than average man in the street cleans Nunes up, her striking is pretty average with no power.
Nunes isn't hype though, she's the real deal. That said Rogan is just being an MMA fanboy. Nunes-Holm would have been an epic striking battle and would have shed light on Rogans little opinion That Nunes Can Beat Any World Class boxer. Which I think is baloney.
I have never been a Rousey fan. She was always bigger than her opponents and ducked Cyborg her entire career. Yet, she would spout off crap about being able to beat Cain Valesquez when he was HW champ given the right day. Her whole game plan was charge across the cage throwing haymakers, take it to the ground and armbar. The first time she met a striker with good footwork that didn't just back straight up KO'd her.
Slovenia. We had Olympic gold medalists in female judo in the past, including the last Olympics, so that sport has a bit more attention here. One of our girls beat Ronda way back. We have one decent judo coach who really pushes his athletes and the results are there. That's why it was always ridiculous to me how they hyped Ronda considering that even in our 2 million country we don't hype our GOLD medalists who are clearly better athletes than her 1% as much as American media hyped Ronda as some "special athlete".
I disagree. You aren't wrong and I'm very aware of his shortcomings as an entertainer, but the man is very charismatic and knows how to talk in an interesting way. It's not a fluke that he has a huge podcast. I don't think he's a good actor, or comedian, which is how he made his fortune, but he's a great radio personality. He knows how to describe things in an articulate way, and he can converse or interview in a natural manner. He's not a great intellectual, but you don't need an intellectual to do any of his jobs. What he does really well, his main asset to the UFC, is he get's genuinely excited about the fights. He loves watching them and his excitement transfers over to the audience. That's all there really is to the commentary job. You need to know a little about the game you're discussing, but the bulk is probably just being a good conversationalist and having a likable personality; so you don't get on viewers nerves. Other than that, the commentaries are almost never that informative. I think they are more about keeping people focused, giving their ears something to do while their eyes are watching the fight. A good commentary is the equivalent of what your buddies would say if you had them over to watch a fight. It's not an in depth break down of skills or events. They don't offer a lot of historical perspective. It's just a bull session. Most fighters actually stink at commentary. I believe Tito Ortiz was monumentally bad, if memory serves me right. Chuck Lidell probably can't put more than a few words together in the right order after all his head trauma, etc. I'm not sure Silva speaks English. Jon Jones could probably do it though, or Chael Sonnen. I know we've had some problems in boxing over the years putting ex-fighters in front of the mics. Jones, Ward, and Leonard are the exception not the rule. When PBC had Tommy Hearns for a while, I think he was having trouble putting words together and slurring them. I'll give Rogan some slack, because I think his UFC job is something he's actually good at. I cut Lampley and Kellerman slack too, because I've heard what their competition sounds like. The guys who have their jobs in England, Australia, or on rival US promotions are usually awful. I wish they'd just give the job to Steve Kim and Boom Boom Mancini but I'll never get that lucky. One area I do agree with you is with Rogan surrounding himself with some mouth breathers who don't challenge him. All the drug and conspiracy talk can get annoying.
