I just want to applaud the use of "Potemkin village".

His technique is solid though, it not like he just endorses playing rubber guard for it's own sake. Really, he puts more empasis on getting take downs than most schools and does a lot of interesting stuff with side control, which makes him more in tune with the fundamentals and realities of fighting than many BJJ schools that start from the knees and teach bad takedowns if any.

No he didn't invent the basic idea of a high guard where you grab your leg, Nino Schembri did it before him, and others probably before him, but he really is the only one to make a system out of it.

Yes he is a lot of marketing, not as bad as Lloyd Irvin, but he is a self promoter; can you blame him though?

On the human side he does cheap (for top training in LA) month to month contacts with no long term contacts that **** people. He works with a lot of pros, and they seek him out, that has to say something.

 

I don't know the extent of their work on them, but his basic philosophy is to get the takedown, pull guard if you have to.

I know that sounds generic and obvious, but there is a misconception that they focus all their time on rubber guard, which really isn't the case; the rubber guard work just stands out more because it's different than most people.
