Joe Savage reportedly said that he thought the referee stopped the fight too early.

I think Cooper had his people bribe the referee before the fight.....its the only explanation that makes sense!

Savage is stupid then. Savage was in no condition to continue. He was getting his rear end kicked and the ref stopped it at precisely the right time.

I think Savage was just having a bad night.

I doubt it. He was just a fluke and he met Cooper, who was a brave but genuinely good fighter, and he lost legitimately.

Well Joe Savage would have beaten Frank Bruno.

Ha ha. There was no reason to have faith in Savage. Bruno sure not the hottest fighter in the world, but faith in him would not be misplaced in this kind of a match.

I often use this as an example of what happens when a tough guy from the pub has a go at a professional. Savage was living in my home town of Wolverhampton when the massacre took place. Nobody here had even heard of him !

That really shows just how much of a fluke he really was. No disrespect meant for Cooper, who was really pretty talented, but Cooper was aging, very inconsistent, and never beat a top contender, and since he absolutely DESTROYED Savage, that just exposes Savage as a fraud.

As I remember it was some freak Pro-Am show down in New Orleans. Savage never had a licence in the UK. Probably the holiday of a lifetime for him.
