I understand, but I'm focusing on Joe's health here. His brain was at stake. Stoppage was justified. His brain was shutting down. Similar to Tszyu Judah. When the mans brain is turning off it's time to call it a night.
I was shocked to watch Beterbiev just go through the gears so early in the fight. His last fights he was stuck in first gear for several rounds but with Smith he just went OFF!!! Brutal fight
Was always a horrible style matchup for Smith. Anyone worth their salt can see that. Yarde would survive longer and he's not tougher than Smith.
He said that last time he was not listening to his corner from the start, but right now he was just doing everything according to the gameplan. Maybe we just saw Beterbiev in his prime.
I think we did my man. He went through all the gears and his attacks were mixed up beautifully for this fight
I've watched it back carefully and despite being on the borderline he is landing in a clean scoring area, that being the side and top of the head. They weren't rabbit punches though.
His argument isnt that Beterbiev is being technically illegal. Hes saying that Beterbiev is hitting people near the off limits part of the head. My thing is hes either breaking the rules or not. And he isnt.
Ya he's got that freakish power.. naturally heavy hands.. A lot of his punches are close range shots as well yet still do crazy damage, he rarely winds any of them up .. imagine if he did.. he might be pound for pound the hardest puncher in the sport
Although nowhere near the skill level abilty ,boxing IQ etc , but I think raw core strength LH I do think Yarde is as , if not stronger than Artur. Yarde is naturally built, he does not carry gym blood puffy muscle. One of my Brother in law's is exactly the same, wiry, tremndously strong above his weight... But in a boxing ring Artur will be King, as was a gassed Kovalev...
I'd like to give a shout and credit to Joe Smith for taking this fight ,in an age where ducking is second nature he took the toughest fight available and he comes to fight. A tough and humble man I wish more were like him .
This fight had a similar aura to it as GGG/Lemieux did years ago. People getting excited over two hard punchers squaring off, most ignoring the fact that one guy is several classes above the other. Beterbiev has heavier hands, GGG was the better boxer, and Lemieux was probably more dangerous than Smith being more explosive with better one punch power, but the point stands. Smith is a very good story, one that Arum used to perfection. Marketing this fight as the working class white American, the “average Joe”, trying to defy the odds against a monster, like a modern day version of James J. Braddock challenging Jack Dempsey*. And even some of the die-hard fans drank the coolaid. And the part about Smith fighting the wrong fight is just non-sense. Trying to be cautious, looking to counter(something he has no skills for) would’ve only meant prolonged and more brutal beating at the hands of Artur. Trying to catch Beterbiev early was his only bet, and he tried his best. *Meant to say Max Baer.
Nope, ydksab. Joe Smith could have fought behind the jab and set up his punches better, instead he threw balls to the wall and decided that slugging it out was the key to victory, against a ko artist with a 100% ko ratio and he paid the price. Its as simple as that.
