Joe Tessitore: "The heavyweight contenders of Ali's era would all be title holders today". So true, oh so very true! :thumbsup :happy :happy :happy
what about chuck wepner, i think hed be fighting in some hicksville promo as a opponet for jd chapman, not in a world title fight
Oh God, just because boxing was very popular in America back then and Americans were all on top does not mean they were any better. People need to get over this whole thing.
I don't know that it has a lot to do with those guys being American. rather it probably relates to guys like Peter, old Maskaev, and Sultan Ibrag holding belts recently.
Ya, I disagree w/ that. Foreman and Ali....That's it...No1 else in his era would be dominant; the division isn't as weak as people try to make it out to be. The right fights just aren't being made.
There are no fights like Ali vs Fraizer, Ron Lyle vs Big George Foreman (one of the greatest and most exciting fights in history) Sam Peter lacks the fire power of Earnie Shavers. I don't see Peter taking Ken Norton out like Shavers did. Prime Ali embarasses all the heavies today. Chris Byrd was never as good as Jimmy Young but he was one of the longest reigning titlist in recent history.
