This isnt meant to be an Anti-Joe thread, i respect him for his acheievements, having said that i feel that the upcoming fight with Roy Jones Jr is very sad .. Joe will more than likely win against Roy as Roy's main defensive strength, his reflexes, have naturally rusted since his hey day and hes hit with shots he'd never be hit with in his prime .... Joe will win and say he beat a legend and for me that is a fabrication, if the best version of Joe Calzaghe went in with a late 90s Roy Jones he wins 2 rounds tops imo, Roy in his prime used to only lose rounds when he was showboating or taking a breather. If Roy loses it should never be forgotten that he was an endlessly superior fighter to Calzaghe and hope the history books show this because sometimes memories are short in boxing ........

Of course he wins a round.

Prime for Prime it's the toughest fight of their careers for both of them.

Jones wins by UD more often than not but a Calzaghe victory wouldn't have been out of the question either.

There have been much much bigger upsets in the history of boxing than the thought of Calzaghe beating Jones prime for prime.

Yes Calzaghe would make a fight of it, he wouldnt win but i doubt Jones would stop him.

I could see it going to the cards something like 8-4 for Jones.

Jones was near unbeatable but Montell Griffin gave him a pretty good fight the first time around and he was a southpaw.........or maybe im clutching at straws for Joe?:huh

Calzaghe would give it a good shot and win a round here and there

Probaly 9-3 to Jones in rounds

    Great vid!

Whilst i see where you are coming from Calzaghe is in a way better league than the fighters shown, but Jones Jnr back in the day was near unbeatable.

To be frank i think Jones jnr is a harder fight even now than Kelly Pavlik.

Im not sure about your analysis of Joe, dont get me wrong i respect your opinions, but you have to realise how good Roy Jones was, he had as good a speed, reflexes and accuracy as anybody ive seen .. Joe beating a late 90s Jones isnt even part of the equation for me unless obviously Jones somehow hasnt prepared properly, the real question is how close can Joe make it, ive seen Joe's whole career and Roy's whole career and i wouldnt be surprised at all if a late 90s Roy wins 10 rds of the 12, i feel Joe's style doesnt help him at all against a prime Roy and Roy would know that Joe isnt going to knock him out .... Joe is a very good fighter but he only wins a couple of rounds for me against a focused Jones .. I respect all opinions, we're all boxing fans

Thats a great point Montell did give him a good fight first time round, he harried well in that fight, crowded Roy and Roy didnt like taking shots in the corner one bit, but i have a feeling Roy took him lightly something he wouldnt do with Joe, and of course when Montell went in with a focused Roy in the rematch, Roy wiped him out in 1 round ........ Maybe im being harsh on Joe, but his record is based on beating 2 good but not great fighters in Lacey and Kessler and Hopkins who was 43, already beaten twice by Taylor and Hopkins took him very close and for me looked the more in control fighter. Its a messy fight but Calzaghe v Hopkins exposes Joe alot of times as a somewhat amatuerish fighter, and thats a hell of a statement for a guy with a 45-0 record

I think Joe would have pushed RJJ all the way. Joe doesn't always look great, but he always works his opponents out and finds a way to beat them.

If the fight was in the UK, then who knows....

roy basically does what he did to james toney dominate and probabily get a late KO as calzaghe is not as slick as toney

    He would win rounds.

But he would get his ass kicked in the end.

Not a chance bud, working a 90s Roy Jones out is one thing, doing something about it is a different matter entirely and as Joe had all kinds of trouble working out a 43 yr old Hopkins who only worked for 1 minute of every round, i think your over-rating Joe somewhat .. Joe is still unproven at the very highest level against a champion of true calibre who isnt past prime

The Toney fight is an interesting one, Toney was far better than he showed in that fight, preparation/weight was a major problem. For his lifestyle the fight with Jones was a fight too far at Super-Middle, all Toney's problems came on the scales for that fight, he is a superior fighter to Joe and i gave Toney 1 round in that fight with Roy ..
