Agreed, but prime to prime I take Calzaghe.

In fact, prime Calzaghe vs. the 35 Hopkins may go to Hopkins also, Hopkins' safety first, rougher approach is more difficult than his prime style where he did mix it up for Calzaghe.

Judging from styles. When Calzaghe chased Hopkins, Hopkins has the advantage, until Calzaghe neutralised the right hand, but even then, Hopkins had the tactical spot.

When Hopkins came forward, Calzaghe had the distinct advantage, he did this much more so in his prime, so we'd have a good fight here.

Both adjust well, it depends on the night.

 

Calzaghe wins via a DQ if the fight was on neutral ground. Headbutting and holding is a strategy that, against a swarmer, must be performed with such intensity to work as to be totally unacceptable. A neutral ref would take off numerous points before throwing Hopkins out of the ring (literally) and then clubbing him with a steel chair.

 

Don't you think Hopkins would realise that he's better off letting Calzaghe chase him? It seem like wishful thinking to say prime Hopkins would come forward, and therefore lose, against Calzaghe when the 43 year old version of Hopkins would have won if he just had a tiny bit more energy.
