He wouldn't... At 147, Walcott gets parked.... Walcott was great for a dude 5' tall, but he'd get hammered early.... Hearns too fast, tall & powerful for little Joe.... Hearns KO 2 Walcott.....:patsch

    MR.BILL

    EXTRA:

    Maybe Walcott was 5' 1" tall? I can't remember...

I'm a fan of Walcott. But Hearns had like a foot height and reach on him.

STILL! Walcott goes to sleep when Hearns' long-ass right lands upside Walcott's head with a thud.....:|

Joe Walcott was taking shots from HEAVYWEIGHTS, so I think Walcott's chin was pretty great to not get stop by a hitter like Hearns.

I may favor Hearns, base on lack of film on Walcott, but Walcott beat the better fighters overall. And was a great tactic fighter in his own right. Walcott had a great chin and I cant see even Hearns blasting Walcott out.

While it's true Barbabos Joe had a great chin, Hearns had a laser right hand. I think he lands one too many. I don't see him blewing Walcott out early, and if Joe connects it's probably all over for Tommy, but as I said before, he's going have probably 12" in height and reach over Walcott. He could keep him at the end of his jab all night and circle him while landing that big right hand.

Perhaps, but most heavyweights failed to do that in the ring with Walcott. I think Walcott may shock us, I belive Walcott will get in and make a war out of it. Walcott have always or in most cases over come the reach and weight problems, so this is nothing new.

Walcott took Langford's best shots and stood up and Langford was able to knock out the heavy's of his day that itself says a lot about Walcott's chin. And Joe probably equal or maybe even a harder hitter then Tommy so he shouldn't be ruled out, unfortunately there is no film of him so it is difficult to make an educated guess but I doubt anyone is getting stopped early.

At any rate, Hearns by KO or TKO either with a booming right to the jaw, or his left jab cuts Joe Walcott's face to shreads.... Walcott is NOT going 12 to 15 rds with Hearns at 147...:bbb

At first glance this looks like a mismatch. Hearns is so much taller and has so much more reach that it´s nearly unimaginable that these guys fought t the same weight. Add that Hearns may have been the best long range fighter at 147/154 in history and he had that very fast very powerful right hand you just can´t think anything else than an outcome similar to Hearns-Duran.

But you can´t just look at one fighter. Little Joe was very durable, had a great chin, was very strong and very powerful. Add that he was always the smaller fighter and was used to close the gap and the whole fight looks a bit different.

Mr. Bill says he can´t see Barbados Joe go 12 or 15 with Tommy, I say I can´t see Hearns staying away from Walcott for 12/15 rounds. Walcott would get inside and he would hit that chin of Tommy. Can Hearns take it? Given his career, I don´t think so.

It goes down to two things:
    1. Do you think Hearns can hurt or KO Walcott?
    2. Do you think Walcott is able to close the gap?

In my oppinion Hearns can´t hurt Walcott but Walcott would be able to close the gap and knock Tommy out. Wouldn´t be too surprised if Tommy wins by UD or by TKO due to cuts. Hearns has more ways to win but a KO for Walcott is imo the most possible outcome.

Fred Russel had 17" and 100 lbs on Walcott and he still got knocked from pillar to post.

Wlacott was 5' 1'' but he also weighed as much as Hearns.

What do you think the payoff might have been?

Look, we really don't have a whole lot of film footage (If Any) on Joe Walcott. So, other than going by the stories from the articles in the paper and boxing history books, its hard to get an honest read on the little bugger... I know he was great and all, but this horse**** about kickin' ass on heavyweights is SO OVERBLOWN! C'mon, you think Tommy Hearns never schooled a heavyweight or two inside the Kronk Gym back in the day.?.? We gotta look at who these heavies are / were... Sam Langford was a great fighter from yesteryear, however, he really wasn't all that massive.. At best, he was perhaps 190 pounds when he was in-shape to fight.... Joe Walcott was great, but his persona is a tad bit blown-out..... At 147 to 154, Hearns smacks Walcott all around the ring for a TKO by way being counted out or on cuts....:hat

Are these heavies as skilled and fast as Hearns?

    No.
