Cammarelle is stepping diagonally back and to his left, then lurching in with big looping lefts. Medzhidov is catching them on his right forearm and resetting, scooting in toward Cammarelle and threatening with left jabs and short hooks on the ear. Cammarelle is caught by a HUGE right hand and hurt again. Neck-level right hooks by Cammarelle falling in, connecting but sloppily. Frequent clinches.

The other two have Medzhidov pitching a shutout. (which he is - and I'm a huge Cammarelle fan...)

 

Round 3

Cammarelle is tapping Medzhidov on the left temple by reaching out with his right hook from outside. Cammarelle is pulling his chin in tight against his throat and swerving his upper body while spiraling in closer, throwing lead right hooks up high, elbow over his shoulder, digging into Medzhidov's skull while slipping Medzhidov's overhand rights or getting just grazed by them. Cammarelle is smothering Medzhidov on the inside and dropping both gloves onto his upper back as Medzhidov thrusts both forearms into his chest to push off and swipes with more grazing rights, less effective on the inside.

Ivan Dychko vs. Erik Pfeifer, 3 rounds @ super heavyweight

 

This is Dychko's first actual challenge in these world championships. He got a very easy draw in the early seeding and then had a quarterfinal walkover to get into the semis.

The undersized German looks a division smaller than Dychko but has a legit CV and skills.

 

Round 1

Dychko is putting up throwaway jabs and then driving in the right hand on Pfeifer as he dances around ducking with every step. Pfeifer is effectively rolling under most of the straight punches of Dychko but not reaching up to his chin with his counter. Pfeifer chases Dychko with a pair of glancing rights shot up from a crouch as Dychko backpedals. Big rocketing upward right hands by Pfeifer coming in low.

10-9 Pfeifer, stole it late. (Dychko was the ring general for the first two minutes but didn't land much except very light set-up jabs)

 

All three judges gave it 10-9 to Dychko.

 

Round 2

Dychko is pivoting to his left and doubling the left jab on the outside. Lead left hooks to the body by Pfeifer. Dychko lands a jab, cross, and stiff jab while circumnavigating the ring, spinning Pfeifer like a sundial. Pfeifer bounces up and down, looking to surprise Dychko from different angles and altitudes coming in with lunging up-jabs and hooks at the body. Dychko is maintaining distance well, the only boxer making contact.

The crowd is very enthusiastic considering the lack of action.

 

All three judges have it 10-9 Dychko and 20-18 Dychko altogether.

 

Round 3

Dychko is circling to his left and forking out long straight left jabs and right crosses while traversing the rim of an giant invisible martini glass taking up most of the breadth of the ring, like a well-manicured and polished lady's finger. Pure fundamentals by Dychko, taking full advantage of his natural gifts of height and reach. Pfeifer cannot get past the jab, but is trying everything he can. Pfeifer dives in by Dychko's flank and springs up with a hook, gets pushed out with the jab as Dychko steps away, then charges in with a high 1-2, again repelled by the jab and nailed with a cross as Dychko steps around him.
