Well he's a 2 x European gold medalist, a silver and bronze medalist at the World Amateur Championships and a 2 x Junior World Champion. And he's still only 22. In fact, he just turned 22 today. His 2 loses in the World Amateur Championships came at the hands of the exceptional Cuban Julio César la Cruz who is a 3 x World Amateur Gold medalist. No shame in that at all.
ya de la cruz isp4p number 1 in the am's and one of the best amatuers I can remember and his also over 4 years older than ward which helps if he wasn't around ward would have 2 world titles already more than likely
Yeah that's also true and yes he may well have gone on to win the gold in both those world championships had La Cruz not been around. The silver medalist in the 2013 world championships who lost to La Cruz in the final was Niyazymbetov who Ward has beaten.
No shame in being second best to La Cruz...the guy is one of the greatest amateur boxers of all time.
cruz , ward even in the am's had an ugly style and was a terrible hugger cruz my be very negative at times and his fights are boring because they don't have much action usually and are very one sided. Sometimes I wish he would step on the gas but something tells me he doesn't trust his chin
he messed up against the Brazilian, for some reason he taught he was dominating and switched off an lost also mekhontsev was a very lucky gold medal winner, 1 he got a lot of close decisions at the Olympics and 2. de la cruz got knocked out by someone else and joe ward got robbed out of his place in the Olympics. Ward beat mekhontsev easily when he was still only 17
So you're saying winning 3 World championships and numerous other international tournaments>>> winning a gold medal at the Olympics and zero international tournaments during your entire amateur career? Who knocked La Cruz out by the way? I think I may have heard that before but if I have it's vanished from memory
yup by far no one knocked him out his been down a few times, Buatsi knocked him down in the world championships and in the wsb sep had him rocked badly. Also the way he fights would suggest he doesn't think much of his chin. he will only go in and trade when his facing very poor opposition, but against anyone half decent he will stay away from danger as much as possible
I'm only playing. ESB has taught me that winning a gold medal in the Olympics and competing in zero other international tournaments>>>winning the world championships as a senior and a junior, an Olympic silver medal and many other international tournaments. I also learned that 114-5 compiled against mainly domestic competition with the exception of your comp in one Olympics and maybe a couple of international dual matches >>>345-5 complied against taking on the best the world has to offer far more often including at the Olympics, the world amateur championships numerous times, the World Cup, junior world championships, Asian championships and numerous other international tournaments. Who do you think is the best amateur out of J Ward and A Ward? La Cruz has the reflexes of a mongoose and is crazy talented.
And unlike De La Cruz, Ward will go onto have a big career in the traditional pro game. Assuming De La Cruz doesn't start working on his swimming
