Should have fought Dawson years ago? I don't know...Dawson has only really come to the fore through his win against Adamek...wouldn't he have been a bit green years ago, anyway?:think

I see a similar scenario. This would give him a win over an ATG as well as the 175 RING title plus as opportunity to fight in the USA. And he could come back home one last time to beat an established 175 pound title holder in Woods.

I think it would be a perfect way to end his career. Maybe money lures him into 1 or 2 more fights after that though.

Perhaps you don't know the (true) story about how Hopkins ducked him...years ago, when a win over Hopkins would have meant a lot to Joe's legacy, not just to his resume...

its hard to make the fight when the Old ******* refused it back in 2001/2002

the old **** was happier calling out "little men" like Hoya
don't get me wrong tho from hopkins viewpoint the fight only really makes sense now

all risk and no reward for the old **** back in the day where joe wasn't widely known....move up a division get your arse kicked for a fraction of the respect and money you would get for beating up a welterweight

I hate these crystball predictions, I've always been wrong. I'll just add in my 2 cents anyways. According to Hopkins there negotiating a deal with Calzaghe to fight midsummer 2008. I think it will be earlier than that, probably sometime in May. If Calzaghe's stays true to his word and will retire in 12 months that will only give him two fights. I think Dawson will fight three times next year, first against his mandatory Adrian Diaconu, than Clinton Woods, and the last fight being against Calzaghe. I see Calzaghe and Dawson fighting probably in late fall 2008, maybe even winter.

How many times do I have to say that Hopkins won't be fighting Joe!

You've said it countless times...it's just that Joe wants it SO much...he's prepared to do anything to get it...and Hopkins has lost before...a loss to a man 7 years his junior will not be a catastrophe, given the fat paycheck...

Or, do you think Joe doesn't really want it at all and he is only talking it up because he knows Hopkins will ask for a lot and him and Warren will not be willing to pay so much and they will be able to blame Hopkins using the ducking precedent the first time around?

Because if it's the latter, then Hopkins will not fight Joe!

In other words, if Joe fights for very little money, relatively speaking, do you still think Hopkins won't touch it?

If "benefit of the doubt" means Hopkins took easier fights against smaller men for which he'd get more money and more mainstream respect than facing Calzaghe, you're right. From a business standpoint, I can see perfectly why Hopkins balked at the Calzaghe fight 5-6 years ago. Too much risk, not enough reward.

But hey...maybe he just doubled his asking price in a day because he lost it playing blackjack.

    My crystal ball:

Calzaghe fights Hopkins - at 168 - for Calzaghe's WBO belt (defense number 22), then Woods (23), then a stay buissy fight waiting for the super fight (at that point) (24), then a no-name as all the names priced them selves out = 25 defenses = retire

    :)
