i think he should retire after beating Hopkins, he should'nt ruin hes legacy against a good longster again, even though he was up to it against Kess. Joes a legend and what ever any yank says on this site he isn't hyped enough, the guys a master at 168 and hopefully the beating of the racist big mouthed tw*t will secure his place in boxing history.

Joe has been talking about the winner of Taylor/Pavlik more than Woods. He doesn't really seen enthused with the prospect of fighting him

Maybe one of them will get their asses over to Cardiff

Taylor wouldn't, win or lose against Pavlik; he dodged Joe before when he was unbeaten. If he loses again, he is not a draw; if he wins, and he won't, well, he might come, but it's unlikely because he would know Joe would beat him and he wouldn't want a second loss to a 36 year-old. Pavlik certainly wouldn't come if he wins; if he loses, he wouldn't be a draw to Joe anymore and would go back to the drawing board anyway.

You've thought about it more than I have

Pavlik will win no doubt. I can see him fighting the Duddy's of this world for a few easy pay days before taking on Abraham, so I can't see Joe being around when he finally moves up

That is the fight I'd like to see, rather than expect to see

I'd even prefer Dawson, but he's a nobody, so again it won't happen

    Woods is most likely :-(

Quite a few people, myself included, believe Dawson would give Joe the hardest fight and would boost his legacy most in the eyes of objective, knowledgeable analysts. So we all think Joe should fight Dawson not old man, has been, legend Hopkins, who is just a a trophee win for Joe to stuff on his resume for casual fans to stare at...

Unfortunately, Joe has no intention of fighting him despite saying he wanted the biggest legacy building fights. Since he beat Mikkel, he has changed his tune, saying he wanted big money, big name fights....shame. Before, when Joe was not that big a draw and was avoided by the best, including Hopkins, he was rightfully complaining he was dodged. Dawson has not called Joe out, preferring name, has-been legend, American Johnson instead...a much easier fight. Still, I am disappointed Joe doesn't consider fighting Dawson - he has never mentioned him as a possible opponent; now he is a big draw and could sell this fight, but he chooses not to.

I think it's a case of once bitten twice shy for Joe

He's already done the fighting unbeaten American. Dawson is obviously far better than Lacy, and as you rightly say knowledgable fans would give him great credit for beating him, but unfortunately that's a very small number

The vast majority would write off Dawson as a green nobody, that's just the way it is, and he would again be criticized for not fighting any greats

Hopkins is the only logical option at the moment. If Dawson comes through Johnson as expected, there may be a slim possibility of this happening

The chance of Joe fighting Dawson was always very slim. Would Dawson be enough of a name to Joe even after beating Johnson, if that fight happens? (Diaconu)... And why would Joe take another big risk at 36 and a bit against an up and coming dangerman when h ecould simply retire or face someone like Woods instead, say?:think

Exactly! Dawson is clearly the toughest opponent for Joe at the moment.
He wont get credit for anyone he faces so he may as well go where the money is (Hopkins). Shame this fight is happening so late in their careers as it looks like the winner will be whoever has aged the least (Calzaghe imo) and not so much who's the better fighter. 5 years ago this fight would've been a pureists dream!

    Probably not to be honest

Glen Johnson is a relic, Dawson should wipe the floor with him, so I doubt it will raise too many eyebrows. It's going to be pretty hard for Dawson to raise his profile in that division, especially with Calzaghe and Hopkins fighting each other

Joe desperately wants to retire unbeaten, and knows he can easily beat the limited Woods. Woods is an easier fight, makes more money and at the end of the day will go down about equal on his resume, despite Dawson being superior. That's boxing

    No brainer

Exactly...to Joe, the "0" is more important even than money or resume, not to mention legacy...

This is by no means impossible...

I could see Hopkins then winner of Taylor and Pavlik though as more marketable...

I think in an ideal World it would be best if Joe fought Hopkins at 175 to claim the Rings 175 title, then fight the Pavlik/Taylor winner at 168.

I do see this hopkins match coming off, BHop himself now has got used to saying Joes name which didne five years ago. I think once he beats Hopkins at light heavy, he'll try for Woods.

Who died and made Dawson the next big thing???

He has beaten one good fighter in Adamek and then defended against nobodies twice - nearly as bad opponents as Mundine is fighting these days. He has been down at least three times to my knowledge. If Calzaghe was to blow him out he'll gain no legacy what so ever - only if the fight is hard and close will he gain anything for that.

In my book Dawson doesn't derseve a shoot at Calzaghe yet - let him prove himself against some prober opponents - Johnson is a clear step up, but no topfighter either. Hell Lacy had a resume much better than Dawsons at this time!!!
