Wembley is the home of football.
England is the mecca of football

    This cant be denied.

Holland more qualified? How? What have they ever won/done?

Joe is already a legend in Great Britain and Europe.

If America doesn't matter then what difference does it make to his fans? You can get together over beers and go on and on about what a great fighter he was. Isn't that enough for you since you believe the US is meaningless?

As far as legendary status in America I don't think his fight with Hopkins fit the bill. It just wasn't a legendary performance by either fighter. The opportunity was there but it just didn't happen.

Also, I tend to agree with the non-Americans about Vegas. For me it's not the true mecca of US boxing. If they had held that fight in Tampa I think it would have put 20,000 in the seats. I think St. Louis, Detroit, Philly, New York City and several other venues would have had a bigger turnout.

The problem is Vegas is where the money is at.

I hate to tell you this, but Americans aren't the only ones. If anyone has a superiority complex, seems to be certain UK posters on this site. I take it American boxers like Hopkins or Wright are HUGE and very well respected on the other side of the pond huh? How many Mexican boxers are huge and well respected in the UK? Yeah...didn't think so.

If anyone thinks UK or Asian or anyone else's fans are any different then American fans, you're foolin yourself and just acting like a bunch of babies. The trick to THINKING your better then anyone else is, you have to act like it. Ya'll are the same as any other group of fans.

This is painfully obvious... Joe and his fans want to claim he is the GOAT right? The PROVING ground is America..:deal EVERY great fighter who goes down as one of the GOATs had to come here. Don't like it? Stick to bar fights at your local pub... Continue beating up mailmen, barbers, and the drunk guy in the corner.:patsch

Why do you think fights in Vegas generate so much money?

Do you think fights in Wales make more money than Vegas?

Where is the best place to hold a fight for big profits?

That's because most of the elite fighters are either from the US or south of the boarder. Simple fact is that Joe has never fought an opponent that could be considered an "elite" fighter except for Hopkins.

There's also more class fighters from the American continent in most divisions.

Didn't they say something similar about Foreman v Ali?

    i agree

boxing in america has to be taken away from vegas to the regions , ortherwise boxing will fall in popularity.

only 4 to 5,000 americans turned up to watch hopkins.

compare that to spinks fighting in his hometown getting a 12,000 full house.

calzaghe will be seen in a better light in america after he retires, but that is the same for every fighter from everywhere.
