There is always exceptions to the rule. When have you seen a fight broadcast from Planet Hollywood in vegas? Mandalay bay anyone? There wasn't a solid undercard either. Hell it wasn't even broadcast. I think that GBP cut a corner expecting the fight to stand alone, and when it didn't they obviously had egg on their face.
it was there first boxing venture. they obviously got there sums wrong and took a huge bath. it was obvious from the very beggining that this fight should have been made in the uk. every one new it, but hopkins had to be accomadated for the fight to come off and so the fight took place in las vegas. it would have made more sense in philidelphia if it was going to be held in america. the fight card was on for some 6 hours in the uk
Nice to see you back, sean!:good I always wondered why Las Vegas is preferred to MSG or the Atlantic City casinos, for example...they always seem to get better numbers...
MSG is the best venue and where the most true boxing fans can get to out of the three creating the best atmosphere for boxing. but the promoter has to pay to hire out the venue as they do in the uk. las vegas is always the venue because the casinos give the promoters the biggest ammounts towards there costs. for example the calzaghe v hopkins fight was a $16 million fight the casino put up $11 of that. albeit it lost $7 and dlh gave them back $ 2 million to keep them sweet and intrested in holding events there in the future. i have read that behind the scenes either dlh or the casino, it was not specified who ,were trying to get calzaghe and hopkins to agree to a last minute pay cut. but nothing was mentioned about this from either camp.
I didn't know the casinos put up that much money. I cannot see how it would be worth it to them, even as a publicity stunt... ...seeing that they do put up so much money, it's obvious that many big fights will be made there... Personally, I love MSG the best, in the USA. But even in Atlantic City casinos you tend to get better crowds, because it's easier to get there...no?
Bull****. Following your logic, Lennox Lewis could not be considered a legend. But he is considered an ATG.
Jimmy Wilde is a legend, and so is Bob Fitzsimmons. So are Roberto Duran, Alexis Arguello, Juilo Cesar Chavez, just to name a few guys born outside of the states.
What a load of **** some of you americans talk. Why do we have to fight over there, why don't your fighters come over here is it maybe they wont get away with the cheating. You must think you are the centre of the ****ing universe, i have been to your country mate but I will hold off on being rude but you are dull as ****ing dishwater.
England isn't exactly anything to write home about. Also, it's usually a good idea to use proper punctuation and grammar when you call an entire foreign nation stupid. Just a tip.
This is a good post. Besides the nations you mentioned one of the best known legends in boxing history is from Nicarauga!!! Ever heard of the "Bloody Battle of Bayon?" The Nicaraugan went to the PR and beat the man's ass in his home town! Joe hasn't ever shown those kind of cajones.
Was Zorro born in the U.S.? Why did he become a legend? :think  :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl
some valid points but let me use this as an example. Boxer A born in Britain fought 20 fights in Britain. Boxer B born in USA fought 20 fights in the USA. Now if A and B had fought exact same 20 fighters both lets say KO'd all 20 (for example), A would still be a Euro bum who was unproven, B would be a possible future great, even though they fought the same people and had the same results just the difference is the Americans feel that when you are born on US soil you are automatically better than anybody else. And that is fact!
Of all the bull**** you bullshitted on this bull**** thread this is the worst bull**** yet, and I read every single post:nut
