no its not! Look at Williams, Lacy, Dawson.....if they had been European would Lacy have been ''the next Tyson'' would Williams have ''beaten Mayweather'' etc etc etc That is fact! You have people on here claiming Eubank isnt a HOF because he didnt fight in the US much! Pricks!
Stating that joe will never be considered a boxing legend is pretty debatable, a legend to whom? I'm sure he is a legend for those thousands of fans who attended his fights, but I can understand that for many US fans it might be too early to call Joe a legend, assuming that he hardly had any exposure in the US. One has to know one to judge one. But the whole UK vs US discussions is pretty hilarious from a Dutch (yes The Netherlands/Holland) perspective. First of all, in both your countries at least boxing is still considered a sport, if you claim that you like boxing in Holland you're either an aggressive wife beater or just plain lunatic. Cherish the fact that boxing still has any exposure at all in your countries! Back on topic, it is a fact that Americans tend to be hugely biased towards Americans. Call it patriotism, call it pride or simply call it limited media exposure/knowledge. The US is the size of Europe, and in order to get ("objective") information about foreign countries you'd have to look for it since the media covers mostly (I'd say at least 95% of the time) US news/sports etc. Hell, most Americans I met abroad (even some in The Netherlands) think that Holland is the capital of Amsterdam and that it's located in Germany, and many are oblivious to the difference between the UK, England, Wales, Scotland, Britain etc. But can you blame the average American? Our relative small countries are much more outwardly oriented then the US is. Back on topic, it takes much more exposure for foreigners to get well known, and inherently respected, in the US than it is for US citizens to get well known in European countries. Is this fair? Maybe not, but money talks and untill now the money is in the US. But things seem to change, with the rise of the Eastern European Heavy weights much more significant title fights came to Germany/UK/Russia and therefore it brought the much needes exposure of boxing to broader audiences, and therefore money. Also, thanks to President Bush economic policies and the tendency of US consumers to borrow much more then they can afford the US dollar went from € 1,22 to € 0,60 within 2 years. Ergo, a paycheck in Euro's (and Pound Sterling for that matter) is getting increasingly interesting for US fighters and might lure them into fights oversees. With the money, hopefully will come more evenly distributed exposure in US media and more sensable discussions based on skill/talent/fights in stead of this pretty pointless back and forth nationalistic BS. Most kind regards, MB
Stop arguing about where the center of boxing please. Im an asian and dont have any clue who those euro fighters are.. The first time I saw Hatton was his fight against Tszyu...and My 1st time watching a full Calzaghe fight was his fight agaainst Hopkins.
Another BS thread like this?? :-( Joe fights RJJ and Pavlik and he could possibly beat current and former Champs from 160-175. Thats a feat that translates:good He becomes TRUE Legend and jumps significantly AT:deal :thumbsup :hat
Hey jerkoff besides your HUGE stars like Hatton and Calzaghe you mother ****ers ain't filling that many arenas. David Haye was fighting in school gyms two years ago.
Well, its not my fault they were given almost 0% publicity in Asia until they fought a big name boxer.
Two years ago Haye was fighting at the home of English boxing York Hall you twat! (+ he had only had 17 fights!)
I disagree!!! The fights can be made and Joes no coward by any means:nono Boxing had a nice year in 07 and if they keep putting the fights together? could have a nice 08,09,10,.........:good Calzaghe would realize the potential impact Pavlik would present and I know Pavlik wont be scared either:rasta
How well is Kelly Pavlik respected in the U.S. in comparison to Joe Calzaghe, genuine question? To my eyes his only real big fights so far have been against Miranda & Taylor.
