Had the privilege today to check out the dvd of Joel Caseys win over Tiger Tim Bell. In one word ...SENSATIONAL...in four words.....FIGHT OF THE YEAR. Casey edged out Bell in a split decision not by boxing him but by doin' a Tim Bell on Tim Bell...waging war toe to toe. The 11th round in my eyes was reminisent of round 10 in the first Holyfield/Bowe fight...an Aussie version....Bell was pullin' out all stops and Casey was buckled a couple of times and eventually knocked down but roared back to domininate the remaining round....an amasing and courageous performance from the unheralded Casey. Fights like these are a good advertisement for the sport and the reason why it's worth making the effort to get to the fight and watch it live...I'm sure those lucky enough to be ringside will never forget it.
It's abit strange when we bleat on about all the mismatches and paper champions then when we see a real life rocky story unfold before us it hardly rates a mention....granted it's a terrible shame the fight wasn't televised but still..... just a little side note....Casey scored a couple more knockouts a couple of nights ago in Melbourne....while havin' a night out Joel got jumped by 4 dudes/dogs...he copped abit of damage...as in a couple of cuts to the melon...not before he knocked out 2 of 'em...the other 2 left their mates out cold and legged it ....the boyz bit off more than they could chew...haha
How is Tim Bell going? He has been in a lot of hard fights, Is he slipping or is he getting dragged into fight of the year type cause he is is not getting trained properly?
Bell looked in good nick and fought for every second of every round...so I doubt there was anything wrong with his preparation....I think it just came down to one fighter being slightly stronger and slightly more hungrier....there wasn't much in it...it was a split decision after all....hopefully if they ever fight a rematch that it's on telly....great fight for a PPV undercard.
