    Casamayor targets Hatton!
WBC interim lightweight champion Joel Casamayor, whom many including Fightnews.com rank as the world's #1 135-pounder, announced today he is willing to move up in weight and challenge IBO 140-pound champion Ricky Hatton or Floyd Mayweather. "I have waited patiently for all these so-called lightweight 'champions' to fight me," says Casamayor. "I challenged Juan Diaz at the Freitas fight, but he is hiding behind his promoter's skirt. I'm running out of patience waiting for this boy to grow into a man. Ricky Hatton says he wants big fights. I'll give up the weight and fight him. Floyd Mayweather says he wants big fights. I'll give up the weight and fight him – at any weight."

"I respect Hatton, I respect Mayweather," says Casamayor. "I believe they are men, that they will fight. These other boys, these phony champions, they hide behind their managers and promoters and duck me. Since when does a true world champion have to chase his challengers? These other lightweights who have belts, they should be ashamed to call themselves champions." Casamayor is currently mandated to fight the winner of the Aug. 4 Erik Morales-David Diaz match. Casamayor says he will fight either man, but added there is no guarantee that the winner will simply duck him, as others have since his October win over Corrales. "I will fight anyone," emphasized Casamayor. "I gave up five pounds and beat Corrales. I'll do the same with Hatton. I'll give up any weight for Mayweather – let him name it. I am not going to go away. I'm a real fighter – a real champion – and I know someone will accept this challenge."

Lets cash old legend until he can, if he wins at least people will say he fought another past his prime.
If he beat young lion people will say he fought untested overrated bum which is much worse.

What are the odds on people saying he is shot if Hatton beats him?

This is not a big money fight, and wont happen. Hatton could fight Mayweather or Cotto now for the boku bucks.

If this fight were televised on HBO and in Britain channels, Doesnt matter where it would be held, I think he would make about the same as he did against Castillo (10 million). Thats the beauty of having a fan base, a nice purse is guaranteed. [insert FMJ diss here]

    Casamayor has BIG BALLS.

I consider him as a true warrior,he gave some pounds away against Corrales and still beat him.
I hope he gets a shot at Hatton,he deserves it.

I agree, man. After the way he has been screwed by the ABC sanctioning body (being stripped of his title and then made interim champ) he deserves an opportunity at a big payday.

Casa is getting on in years, but given his performance against Diego it would be wrong to say he is shot. I agree with your implication, though; there would be those who claim that if Hatton beats him. There will always be those who try to discredit a fighter that they don't like.

No need to wait until the fight. I'll say it now. This would be a stupid fight and a lose lose situation for Hatton. he has everything to lose and nothing to gain

It sucks for Casa that people in his weightclass are avoiding him.

Maybe if he takes on one of the less popular 140 title holders, he can garner enough attention for Hatton to fight him.

It's a joke. Like he said, what champ has to chase fighters.

He's the mandatory for his own belt. What a joke.

I agree. Beating the joint best 135 pounder in the world does nothing for ones legacy.
