Joel Julio's management team is very dumb for accepting a fight with Sergiy Dzinziruk

If that ESPN report is correct that is a horrible decision by Joel's people. Thanks for posting that.

Is it because it's in Germany, or because he's facing a fighter he wouldn't be UD'ing anyways? Let's be honest here...what would Julio's chance be of ever winning a decision against Dzinziruk? Given the history of both guys, I'd say not much of one. Julio's team is taking the gamble based on SD's last couple of fights that he's slipped and Joel can knock him out. That's the only reason they'd take a fight like this and not the Martinez fight, as others have listed.

I guess the only silver lining here is that Team Julio is willing to go to Germany to fight an undefeated champion. It's commendable but when you think of the money that supposedly could have been made for the Martinez fight, it's not exactly a sound financial decision. Even if Julio were to somehow pluck the belt from Dzinziruk it would just make him a beltholder in one of boxing's forgotten divisions. There wouldn't be a line of big name fighters calling him out. Either way, I expect Sergei to win a comfortable decision with a rocky moment or 2 along the way.

Not horrible... Off all the belt holders, Sergei is the longest reigning title holder and considered by almost all the people that I talk to or have talked to, the best of the bunch.... Sergei is a legitimate top 5 jr middleweight... The money may not be as good as HBO money, but the prestige is so much more...

That's one way of looking at it. But it appears to be a tougher fight, for less money than the other offer he had, and there is less opportunity for exposure due to the location and lack of HBO interest. I don't think it's a smart decision. I guess if Julio's people are sure he's going to win it, it makes sense, but if Sergei is as good as you say, it seems like a heck of a risk for less reward for Julio. If he loses this, it's back to square one and he didn't even get the benefit of the best payday available out of it.

It was a bad move by Julio's team. He was going to make more money,be on HBO, and for an interim title. The Martinez fight was a much better fight all the way around when you add location and opponents into the mix.

Sure Julio should be commended for facing the toughest challenges but Martinez is no pushover. Its not like Julio is choosing between an all-time great and a journeyman. I don't think there is a huge diffference between the fighters at all and if Didrynuzik is slipping at all then the gap closes that much more. So I think Julio should be criticized more than commended but I'll still be pulling for him.

if he cant beat him, then he has no business fighting for a championship.fighters are meant to fight..not be carefully matched every single fight..... especially when you have over 30 fights...its either you have it or you dont...i dont fault his management team at all. who do you want him to fight? another chump on espn2 with a 17-8 record??
