We all know Calzaghe was the long time WBO 168 pound beltholder. He won the IBF strap from Lacy and then the WBC/WBA straps from Kessler. Yet he coudn't hold the IBF long enough to have unified the title by the time he fought Kessler. This is pretty absurd. Due to the political shenanigans, it's impossible for a super champion, like Joe for example, to hold more that a couple of belts for very long.

I long for the old days. Then again, the WBA gave the heavyweight belt to Ernie Terrell after Ali fought Liston again I think it was. Was the NBA as bad, or does nobody remember them?

There were no political shenanigans when Calzaghe dropped the IBF strap. He refused to fight his mando so that he could fight Peter Manfredo and dropped his belt in the process. All 4 belts were held together for over a year in the MW ranks. It's possible. However, promoters and fighters are more concerned with economic opportunities than they are with belts.
