Great find Mcvey. I never heard of this and I don’t know if brain damage can improve in a short time but he looks markedly improved in the rematch to me. I always just figured he trained harder and didn’t “chase” Walcott as much in the rematch. Maybe their was more to it.
Whether brain damage is temporary or permanent largely depends on whether there has been neuronal death, (meaning simply that brain cells have died) after which the don't (usually) regenerate. But they can sustain structural damage without dying off and then undergo cellular repair. The inverse can also happen. There can be trauma that has little appreciable effect initially, but has a cumulative effect that becomes much more pronounced later, such as through the accumulation of proteins (kind of analogous to multiple power cords becoming increasingly knotted and tangled over time). Really though, this is a question for a proper neurologist.
I've already said what city I live in so I'd prefer not to be too specific about my field of study. Suffice it to say I'm not a neurologist nor do I have any kind of medical training and have only a smattering of training that might apply directly on this question. Put it this way: I'm more interested in the mind than the brain itself.
Got it.......I am an amateur(self study) of neuro science my father in law was a Phd molecular biologist who taught pre-med after his research scientist days were over so I am familiar from my own education both formal and self interest to recognize what you were talking about not to mention my military time, boxing, MMA and training on TBI's
Interesting that you mention military experience and training on TBI's in a short space. I hope there's no direct relation between the two, at least not one that is based on the personal experience of you or any friends. My dad, incidentally, was a blue collar worker.

Well besides boxing TBI's from bad parachute landings, over pressure from explosives or bombs I have seen a few and been fortunate enough to not have any major injuries according to CAT scans but MRI's are not possible for myself do to shrapnel in the face but brain recovery is possible for many injuries the military has as sad as it is because of the nature of war generally led the way in surgical techniques and in the post 9/11 era in TBI treatment and recovery but some are unrecoverable.....many factors are part of recovery from health and nutrition, O2 therapy, retraining the mind muscle connection by healing the myelin sheath between neuro pathways etc.......in recovery the brain proves its resilience if taken care of but at the same time it is delicate as a bowl of jello outside the skull as I saw in my father in laws anatomy class...my wifes family are educated my family is blue collar
