The "Raging Bull" v the fighter I like to call "Old School"...This would be very good...and I don't think it has been discussed...One certainty, this goes the distance...

Joey G isn't a pretty boy for LaMotta's wife to get all excited about, so LaMotta wouldn't try to tee-totally destroy Joey. Joey boxes to a close decision in a one-fight scenario.

Prime for prime I'm going for Joey!
I base this on his fights with Tiger and Fullmer.

This is a tough one and depends on which version of both guys shows up. Both guys have assets that would cause problems for the other. Lamotta's pace would have made Joey uncomfortable and Joey's ability counterpunch in the pocket could bother LaMotta. I think the biggest factor here would be conditioning. Robinson said that whenever you fought LaMotta you knew conditioning was the name of the game. You had to be in top condition to fight him. He was so strong, so aggressive, so good at bodypunching, and made you fight at such a hectic pace that if you werent in great shape hed wear you down. Giardello, even at his best, was notorious for poor conditioning. He was a smoker and hated spending time in the gym. When he showed up in the gym it was always to make up for the last fight that he lost or looked bad in because he didnt train right. Even when he did train he was known as a guy who either faded late or had to pace himself very conservatively. My guess is that this would be the difference in the fight. Regardless of which way it went its going to a decision. I dont see either guy getting stopped. They are two of my favorites and its such an interesting contrast Id love to just sit back and enjoy it.

Great fight, close win for LaMotta, based on Giardello's fights with Tiger and Fullmer, who I think are similar to Jake in aggression and toughness, but lesser.

Giardello had issues with both, fighting to close decisions (wins and losses) and draws. I think LaMotta was, and so would do better.

Well this is interesting! Both were born in the toxic wasteland known to some as New York! Both left the dumpster fire and relocated to the heavenly paradise known as PHILLY! But Lamotta and his family didn’t have the stones to survive there and returned to the sewer! While Giardello was able to survive and thrive and become a skilled practitioner as well as a good human being!

but quite simply Philly always beats NY, so Giardello by A WIDE UD!!!!!!!

For me they would split a trilogy. Great contrast in styles and oh so closely matched.

Joey Giardello, on his best form, was waay too clever for Jake LaMotta...he would orchestrate a paint job on Jake...and employ a heady brand of boxing very similar to his title winning performance vs D ick Tiger. Giardello was a boxing wizard...he would have outsmarted Jake all night long for a unanimous 15 round decision. There would really be no need for a rematch.
