Great fight, with colour spoken by one Rocky Marciano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k1Z2XYIHKY Down in the first and the second, Troy has heart and then some. Grown up performance from Giardello, giving ground and boxing some but they swap some amount of crazy leather. Worth twenty minutes of your time if anything is.
Thanks for posting this, I've never seen Troy and I like Giardello. I'll catch it after " L'Homme Du Train ", which came today.
Yeah, he's very grown up. Marciano is calling for him to get in there and all that but Giardello is just giving ground, giving ground, landing punches on a careless, pressing Troy. It's not a great defensive display or anything but it's reasonably smart work. And that right, Jesus. Troy was apparently a favourite here.
Great fight. I saw Giardello several times ringside. The first time at Eastern P'kwy Arena [home of upsets] a few blocks from my home. A neighbor of mine, Harold Green kod Giardello in the 6th rd. Giardello was still learning the ropes and improved as a fighter. There were a few fighters I recall in the second tier of MWs such as Rory Calhoun, and Randy Sandy and Willie Troy along with Tiger Jones that made the MW divisioin fun to watch in the 1950s Giardello at various times in his career had "stamina" problems, but he was a tough guy to beat.....Willy Troy soon after retired from the ring after suffering a stoppage when his jaw was broken. There were so,so many tough exciting middleweights fighting in MSG those days and an Argentinian named Eduardo Lausse was one of the best. One other thing. For some foolish posters to spout there are more pro fighters In America today than in the past ,check out the 1950 middleweights for a small example of ridiculous this notion...
Here's Troy vs Floyd Patterson ten months later. Troy had bounced back beating Cartier and Tony Anthony in good wins. . http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=p2WJEqCE1bA
Mcgrain another gem.. Giardello was so slick wasn't he? The timing in his punches was incredible, what a good right hand. His skills and the angles he took were at master level.
Troy didn't seem to mind too much if you hit him, what a strong game guy! Giardello was a real mechanic in there. Excellent s****:good
I remember seeing the film of this fight for the first time several years ago and was greatly impressed by the punishment Troy took. Tons of heart. I think this was Giardello at his best too.
