Expectation: Well, if it's on the Rocky Marciano Main Event it has to be fairly good. I am expecting a fairly good bout of boxing with good bursts of action.

The Giardello-Graham bout begins at about 5: 36.

    Description:
    1. A big right hand stunned Graham nearly right off. Giardello later landed another good right. Giardello.
    2. Graham pumped good, solid jabs. Giardello too displayed a jab nearly as good as Graham's. Graham.
    3. Giardello landed a fine overhand right early. Graham was getting a bit crazy going after Giardello, who was in retreat, and Graham was missing wildly, which seemed out of character for him. The end of the round was rugged slugging and clinching. Graham.
    5. Giardello hooked to the body of Graham. Graham eventually trapped Giardello in a corner and went to work on him. Later on, Giardello landed a very good overhand right in countering Graham. There was a heavy exchange of jabs and straight hand shots at the end. Giardello.
    6. Both landed punishing rights. Graham landed a damn good right hand. Graham was quickly added fast left hooks and right hands. But I think it was too late. Giardello's great chin had already allowed him a speedy recovery. Graham stole the show when he stunned Giardello, but Giardello outpointed Graham.
    10. Graham again pinned Giardello into a corner and piled up the points. Graham.

I know the decision went to Graham and then was reversed for Giardello. Either way I am content. It was extremely close going off the rounds provided. There was really no such thing as a better man in this fight. Both seemed so equal in the fight that the momentum was constantly shifting at random it seemed like.

    Assessment:
Giardello-His earliest filmed fight I believe, he looked sharp as a razor. Quick hands and a powerful right hand punch. And a dang good chin and stamina. Nothing faulty about him at all.
Graham-This was among Graham's last big series of fights which also included Kid Gavilan, Carmen Basilio, and a rematch with Giardello. He looked good it in it. He exhibited basically all the good qualities that Giardello showed. I must add that Graham looked uncannily close to an old neighbor of mine. Has that happened to anyone else? Has anyone here ever watched a fighter that resembled someone they knew?

Verdict: Very good fight. Not amazing, but a great boxing skill showcase and exciting at times. It met my expectations exactly I would say. If you're reading this, you should see the fight.

Your evaluation catches what I saw. Off what is shown, I would give Graham the slight edge, but we don't see a lot of the fight.

I agree that both were very good fighters and fun to watch.

One thing which really caused me to break up was Marciano saying that Giardello could do more damage with his head than with his punches. Rocky should know!
