Let's just imagine that after beating Hurrican Carter, Joey sneaked in a title defense against GGG before rematching **** Tiger. How goes it? I welcome your opinions, mah friends.
Giardello was the ultimate 'pro's pro'...very slick, very experienced. Was great at getting off line, keeping the opponent turning. GGG hasn't really fought anyone yet...but he looks like a programmed killer...very good at cutting off the ring. This would be a battle of styles...each fighter's strong suit would be against the other.
Giardello was past his prime against Carter and still made the suppose bald badass his *****. Prime for prime Giardello outpoints GGG.
If Joey had been in top shape for all his fights he might be considered as a near top ten 160 pounder.GGG is unproven yet.
Giardello, at the post-Carter pre-Tiger stage of his title reign still had enough to beat GGG. Such cleverness, moxie, wiliness and just plain wizardry is something GGG hasn't even been remotely exposed to. I think Giardello would have trotted out every trick in his book to turn back GGG's challenge via a close, unanimous 15 round decision.
Now that we have the benefit of seeing how GGG fared against better opposition, it is hard to pick against Giardello.
I find it very unlikely that a featherfist fighter with 26 - count em, twenty six - losses is going to "school" Golovkin. Let's come back to reality for a second.
Here you go: This content is protected I see nothing here that should particularly bother Golovkin. Giardello is elusive and light on his feet. He's got a quick punch, too. But, the much slower Carter has no problem in closing in on him and working his body. Golovkin is a vicious body puncher, and whatever Carter can do, he can do better. He's a master at closing off the ring and forcing the fight. Sure, Giardello will make him miss. But can he hurt Golovkin? I very much doubt it, whereas Golovkin can certainly hurt him. IMO Giardello would have to box a masterclass to beat Golovkin. In no universe does he beat him easily.
i am not sure anybody said it would be easy. Golovkin is a very good fighter. I just think GGG has shown that he is susceptible to being outboxed. Even Kell Brook was giving better than he got until his eye socket failed him.
Joey fought some bangers Tiger ,Carter,Boyd,Hank,Rivero,Troy,Panter,Robinson [ old].You usually needed more than power to beat him.I'd give a top form Giardello a slight edge here.
