I'm always loath to pick Cerdan in fantasy fightsw because I think he's chronically overrated on this board but I give the nod to him in this case, perhaps in small part because the chronic overrated of Giardello as some kind of all knowing/all powerful boxing god annoys me even more. I think Cerdan's assertiveness, silk smooth offense, and sharp sense of anticipation would allow him to move in and out landing telling combinations while Giardello peddals around the ring potshoting off the jab. In cases like this where there isn't much to seperate two boxers of (relatively) similar style you have to give a certain edge to the guy with more pop in his punches which is clearly Cerdan in this case.
I think this depends a lot more on which Giardello shows up than on anything Cerdan could do. Giardello could run hot and cold and often seemed to fight down to his level of competition or show up disinterested. When he was at his best he was fantastic to watch and had a style that would bother Cerdan. But if his sub par self showed up he would likely get outpointed and maybe even by a wide margin.
