Expectation: Only moderate. Both were big names, but haven't seen Cartier before, so I don't have any prior experience to base a prediction on. This content is protected Description: Nothing worthy of mention occurred before the end came. Right out of the blue Giardello decked Cartier with a right hand. And then it went and happened again; same punch. Giardello followed up with swift urgency to dispose of Cartier. A third right decked Cartier in exact fashion. There was an instant rise from Cartier, but the fight was stopped. Verdict: Impressive on Giardello's part, but 1st-round blowouts of guys you've never seen before doesn't stick in your mind long.
Great thread WW!! I'm glad someone here is giving a great, savvy fighter like Giardello the time of day here.
Agree with your take. Cartier seems to have been at best a fringe top ten guy with a shaky jaw. Giardello looks good, but the opposition is a ? *William, I know you are well into the fifties, but there is a cleaned up film on you tube of a fight I don't remember ever having been shown this clear before: "Jack Dempsey vs Gene Tunney II Complete Fight HD" It is cleaned up and at proper speed and closer to the action than the older versions and so gives a fresh look at Tunney and Dempsey. It might be nice to bring it over if you can.
Going back and revisiting old fights is never a problem for me! Yeah, I just saw it on YT briefly. I'd be glad to try and fit it in. And who knows, my perception of it might be different this much later from the first viewing.
