Maxim was durable, and would negate Foster's power with his solid chin and movement, I like Joey by Decision
If Maxim could go the route with super punchers like Lloyd Marshall, and Bob Satterfield, plus twice with Hatchetman Shepard,,also Jimmy Bivins and Danny Nardico ,the only man to ko Lamotta,go the distance 3 x with Moore ,Charles and Walcott why wouldnt he go the distance with Foster who never kod a top ten Heavy, and whose best ko is over a 5 7 37 year old former middle weight?
SRR beat Maxim with Movement and Speed,Foster wasnt known for either. His jab came up out of a right leaning half crouch ,thrown from hip level,he could be open to Maxims left jab,his best weapon.
I wonder if you're underrating the speed of Foster. Watch the Rondon fight for one, the man is like a damn snake in that one. Good footage that shows him at his awesome best.
Dont misunderstand me JT,Foster w as a great LH,with an awesome left hook and a devastating right,I saw him ruin Finnegan with it,but he was more of a stalker, and fairly stifflegged, when an opponent skittered away ,ala Anderson ,Foster would do his little jig hop, them resume his menacing pacing,he had average handspeed ,imo not any better than some that followed him like Conteh for example, his power put everyone on the back foot, would it intimidate Maxim who fought top ten rated Heavies? Rondon was filling his shorts as he moved away from Foster ,Maxim would be jabbing and clinching.
Maybe the reach on the guy deceived his opponents ,he was like a bigger version of Saddler, a real Preying Mantis.
"Any light heavyweight and over..." That list of oppoenent's Maxim faced included heavyweight champions Jersey Joe Walcott and Ezzard Charles, in addition to Archie Moore, Jimmy Bivins, Bobo Olson, Willie Pastrano, Eddie Machen, Freddie Mills, Gus Lesnevich, Lloyd Marshall, Bob Satterfield, and Bob Murphy. Are you stating that not one of them was as good as Bob Foster? Did Foster ever face any light heavyweight approaching the caliber of Maxim? (The only LHW HOFer he faced was 37 year old Dick Tiger. The only other "world" champion Foster defeated was WBA paper titlist Vincente Rondon, although Chris Finnegan was the BBBofC and EBU LHW champion.)
Not on anything (except coffee). I just don't buy into the line that these boxers deserve all the credit people give them.
