This is a fighter's name that I've heard a lot over the years, but know very little about.
When I have heard his name it's usually about being on the losing side to Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, Willie Pastrano and other great fighters. He beat Sugar Ray Robinson supposedly because they fought on a sweltering night and Robinson had to stop because of heat exhaustion. I checked him up on boxrec and although having quite a few losses, Maxim was only stopped once and supposedly had a great left jab. He only has about a 20% ko ratio so he didn't have a lot of power. I also saw that he beat Jersey Joe Walcott and Floyd Patterson, and he was a former lightheavyweight champion.
Can anyone elaborate more on Joey Maxim?
