Joey Vegas vs Edison Miranda?

So just flicking this weeks BoxingNews around and I get to the news section. Right at the bottom it claims that Warriors Boxing with Jim Evans and Robert Waterman are brinning Edison Miranda over to the UK on March 20 to fight at Bethnal Green. Now that bit is great news. Miranda is a great attraction and has put in some very tough displays. It even notes that Eurosport are showing the bill but then it's goes nuts. Miranda who is vertainly still a contender at the top end of the super middleweight division and has been asking for a Froch fight could be facing 11-4 Joey Vegas.

Now I have nothing against Vegas but having seen him fight I can certainly claim that he is probably a rung below British level never mind a top 20 world rated fighter. Vegas fights Dean Francis tonight and god forbid he pulls off a win this fight could become a reality...it seems.

So I guess my real point is that if Edison Miranda is fighting in Britain who would you want him to face?

I do not think we have any super middle weights ready for such a fight especially considering Magee and Dodson face each other.

Light Heavies at the top end are either very inexperienced at this level like McIntosh, Bellew, and Barney.

Francis is probably moving up and Warren wants him for Enzo.

Cleverly is on the Afrobum route with Warren

Woods fights this weekend in a fight that will be tough for him to come through with a win and unscathed.

Plus the other ok light heavies are involved in the prizefighter job.

Down at middle guys who could step up?

Not too sure. All the rated guys seem to have fights lined up or are pretty small like Elcock, Barker, Macklin and fatty Smith.

Not sure what Eastman is upto.

So personally I would prefer to see him fight a good Euro fighter that is knocking around even though the place may be hard to fill up with two oversea's guys.

I think Miranda would have a hard time securing fights in the UK. Who needs this guy? He's lost all his big fights, but still has very dangerous raw power. Why are you going to put your prospect in with this fellow?

Somebody like Brian Magee may fancy the job I suppose. He's in the latter stages of his career, it'd be a pretty big fight for him.

by James Slater - UK fight fans are in for a potentially thrilling night in March, when on the 20th of the month the big-punching Colombian, Edison Miranda, will make his British boxing debut in London. According to Boxing News magazine, the banger will fight at the legendary York Hall in Bethnal Green, London, and the 28-year-old's ultimate goal now is to get a big fight with Britain's Carl Froch, the WBC 168-pound world champion..

So far, no opponent has been officially announced or even chosen for the man who made a big name for himself in America with great, albeit losing fights against Kelly Pavlik and Arthur Abraham (who he met twice, once in the US, once in Germany). But, according to promoter Jim Evans, who, along with Robert Waterman and Miranda's Warriors team, has managed to get the fighter to come to the UK, "Pantera" could wind up facing Joey Vegas.

"I've thought about Joey Vegas [for Miranda]," Evans said. "It depends on how he gets on against Dean Francis (who the Ugandan-born journeyman meets tonight in the UK) and if the British Boxing Board pass it. Miranda's an exciting puncher. A rough, tough guy. He's targeting Carl Froch."

A Miranda-Froch fight would be a huge fight for Britain. Both men like to fight, and both men also like to talk. The build-up alone for a clash between "The Panther" and "The Cobra" sure would be something, and the fight itself couldn't help but be extremely explosive! As long as Miranda, 31-3(27) wins his UK debut on March 20th - and there's no reason to think he won't, especially if he does face the 11-4(4) Vegas - he will remain a possible future foe for the 31-year-old WBC champ. However, Froch must first win his intitial title defence, almost certainly now to be against former middleweight king Jermain Taylor - before he can even begin to think about squaring up with the chill or be chilled Colombian.

Still, it's exciting enough just having the trash-talker who can hit like a mule scheduled to fight against a selected opponent type here in Britain. For European armchair fans of boxing, there is further good news in the revelation that the March 20th card will go out live on the Eurosport channel.

According to Boxing News, Miranda will fight in a scheduled ten-rounder - presumably at super-middleweight (although 27-year-old Vegas is a light-heavyweight).

British fans will welcome the thrill-a-minute slugger with open arms, that's for sure.

    Thanks actull.

Yep seems odd him fighting over here. Can not see fans getting value for money with the noted opponent though.

Yeah, I've just seen this in Boxing News.

Also mentions that Showtime want John Duddy on the Froch-Taylor bill and Hennessy wants to Barker to face him.

Yep. Think someone brought up a thread about Duddy fighting Barker. Should be a very good fight. Duddy has an entertaining style and Barker is ready to move up in class.

    Must have missed the thread.
I think Barker outpoints Duddy who is a hype-job.

Yep so do I and I think most others think the same way unless they are Irish. It is impossible for an Irish person to believe another Irish person could lose a fight.

Barker needs to find some more power if he is to step up further but this could be a very good indication of his whereabouts in future reckoning.

I think Barker has been kept hanging around at Afrobum level a bit too long.

Hennessy obviously had Elcock as British title but still..... why not stick them in with each other?

Granted Mick has improved a great deal in the past nine months - credit where due.

I think Barker will be chomping at the bit to make a name for himself. Duddy already has that, despite beating hardly anyone of note. He is good to watch granted, but nothing to worry a skilled operator like Barker I'd say.

    No.

Somebody like Gevor would send him back to ITV4.

Nah he can be a decent British champion but I think he lacks the power to go much further. The division is packed in Europe so maybe that level will be above him depending on if he is as good a boxer as some say.

We have a few good lads about at middle with Macklin, Elcock, Smith and the rest so hopefully the good fights will be made.

Froch vs Miranda was my preferred option over Taylor, it would have been a better match up for Froch I think.
