The title says it all, only a couple of months between the Jofre/Saldivar Arguello/Marcel fights. This is the fight that got away. 2 greats/different generations.

I might lean towards Jofre to be honest, but this could defo be Arguello ending Jofre's career in way that never materialised in actuality, that dominating offense reigning shots in against the older man. don't know, you got any thoughts ASl?

i think Jofres experiance beats Alexis youth

but Alexis was bigger and had the bigger punch

but a Jofre tight tight decision sounds about right

(see no bias and i love Arguello but i also like Jofre)

Excellent matchup this one, one that I've never thought about before. Jofre seemed to be reinvigorated by the move up to feather, despite his advanced age and his coming out of retirement. His intelligence, toughness and all-round skillset probably see him pull out a competitive decision over Alexis at this point, who was still a bit green.

    Good thread.

Thing with Jofre was he never had had that career ending loss.
I think he can win this one but even he if he lost in a close one to a future ATG it could of added to his legend.

Al i saw the sparring they did

Jofre musta been in his 40s and he was beating up Arguello, Arguello could only throw taps back and got dropped in round 3

    Jofre wins easy

Alexis was green at 126 by comparison, but he was still good enough to take out Olivares, Kobayashi, and blow away Legra in a single round, who was at the end of his career, but had just ran Jofre to a close decision only 6 months earlier.

Jofre's durability and intelligence are well proven, but I'm taking the devestating punch of Arguello to get to the 37 year old in the late rounds. Arguello TKO14.

I never knew that. Remarkable, though not altogether surprising: Jofre was one of the few fighters in history whose completeness surpassed perhaps even Arguello's. It took the one of the greatest of all swarmers to beat him (when he was weight-drained), and even then, both fights were extremely close on Harada's home-turf.

It's quite possible of course. But Arguello was behind on the cards against Olivares, who didn't quite have Jofre's consistency or resilience even if he had more firepower and equal boxing ability. The championship rounds would be important though; they were Arguello's bread and butter and would be even more important considering Jofre's age.

I still like Jofre though, but fair call.
