I have tried to convince myself recently that I'll wake up at 6 or 7 a.m and go out for a jog, but I always set my alarm and i'm just too tired in the morning. Surley being tired you won't be able to run as far or as well, especially on an empty stomach. I'm just 15 so getting up early isn't exactly my strong point now. Any advice on getting up to jog in the morning?

its acctually really hard to do it in the morning and when you wake up that early you feel to tired to run. But wash your face and stretch really well after the stretching youll feel good enough for the run. Coz ussually in the mornings ur muscles are all too relaxed and rested but once you warm up youre good to go

If you pig out on certain foods before you go to sleep you'll feel lethargic in the mornings.

At 15 years old you should wake up with all systems go.

That said I'd question how necessary an early morning run is for a teenager. Surely you can do enough during the day....

Yea, I'm still at school though, I go to boxing training on a Monday and Thursday, play football Tuesday and Friday and Sunday, and do weights Monday-Thursday. But the football (soccer) season is nearly over and i wanted to do some running in the morning to keep myself fit during pre-season. Having a shower should wake me up so I'll try that.

I do all my running in the morning. Not jogging though, tabatas. Routine is wake, eat a banana and have a glass of orange juice, wash face...do some stretching and a few rounds of skipping, then my sprints. Warm back down with few rounds of skipping, back home for protein shake and then breakfast within 1/2 hour.

Shower and ready for the day. Feel great, lotsa energy and generally no aches or pains.

If you're a teenager, then your school day probably starts around 8 A.M.? You should learn to run at night-time if the morning is too hard for you. You could run around at about 8:00/9:00 every night, come back, take a shower, relax, and be in bed by 11:00. That way you can sleep in until 7:00 every day and get a mandatory 8 hours of sleep. Also, I disagree 100% with the people that say it's better to run on an empty stomach, it's not. If you decide to run in the mornings, consider splitting your breakfast... like have a whole-grain cereal or oatmeal with a glass of orange juice before the run and then something like gatorade, eggs, toast, and maybe a piece of fruit when you get back from the run.

You have to FORCE yourself to do, especially the first week. After you get over that, you get used to it and in fact HATE it when you miss a run. That initial grogginess feels like death but as soon as you get 10 minutes into your run, yuoure awake. ALways lay out your running gear right by the bed and place your alarm on the other side of the room, so you cant simply back hand it into snooze. :good

Getting out of bed and straight onto the road is hard without warming up. I start with a couple sets of sit-ups and push-ups to get the blood moving. Then shadow box a couple rounds followed by a light stretch. I find it much easier to run when I'm warmed up with a lite sweat.

The point of running is to improve an energy system. You should always eat before you run so you work to your max potential.

i would say wake up at 5 am get a protein shake, a cup of water, then a cold shower(sometimes talking a warm one will make you sleepy) then go out and start fast to wake yourself up

i personally like jogging in mornings better because no cars and no kids hanging out in mornings

Your right - as a teenager, getting up early isn't our strong suit! This is because our circadian rhythms tend to creep out by a few hours.. thus, we want to stay up later and get up later.

Anyway.. to your question. Why get up at 6am? If you normally get up at 8am, why not get up at 7.30 and run for half an hour. The point is - for some reason, people want to run that early in the morning when they dont have the committment and will inevitably stop. So, only get up slightly before you usually do.

You gotta really want it, and decide if its really worth it to you. Starting is the hardest part, i guarantee if you do if for a couple weeks it will become a habbit and you truely wont want to miss a day of it. Good luck with your training.

Try not to eat after 6-7pm and when you get up in the morning have 5-15 grams of protein warm-up, stretch, and then try jogging.
